My guess is Frazier will have to take a minor league deal. Good luck to him. He’s had terrible luck
Kind of like lonnie chisenhall whose career was ended by constant calf strains

12662So you look back at when the Tribe kept Zimmer and dealt Frazier. Much ado about nothing in retrospect.civ ollilavad wrote:My guess is Frazier will have to take a minor league deal. Good luck to him. He’s had terrible luck

Goes along with my tagline.

Re: General Discussion
12663Zimmer simply hasn't been very good; Frazier had some good moments at bat although not in the field before his serious concussion. At least Brad still has a job although I guess they can still decide to DFA him to pick up a free agent; I think I'd prefer Sterling Marte to Zimmer.
Re: General Discussion
12664That really was quite a roster shakeup yesterday. Strong sign of belief in the quality of the farm system. There are now a dozen players on the 40 man roster without a day in the majors; in fact you can make a nice lineup with them:
C Lavastida
1b Noel
2b Freeman
ss Arias Rocchio Tena
3b Jones or one of the SS
lf Kwan
cf Palacios
rf Valera
RHP Cody Morris, Tobias Myers, Carlos Vargas
LHP Konnor Pilkington,
Lineup something like:
2b Freeman or Tena
ss Arias or Rocchio or Tena
dh Rocchio
rf Valera
lf Kwan or Jones
1b Noel or Jones
3b Jones or Tena
c Lavastida
cf Palacios or Kwan perhaps

Re: General Discussion
12665Caminero is not a catcher as I said yesterday but another of the vast horde of SS in the farm system. According to this page he is tiny and had a very solid season at bat in the DR summer league
Name: Junior Alberto Caminero
Born: Jul 5, 2003 in Santo Domingo,
Ht.: 5'0" / Wt.: 157 lbs
Bats: R / Throws: R
AB AVG OBP SLG HR
Career 146 .295 .380 .534 9
2021 146 .295 .380 .534 9
another site lists him as:
5' 11"/157 I'm guessing that's correct.

12666Jason Lloyd:
The 11 players the Guardians added to the 40-man roster this week are among the highest any team has added in the past 10 to 15 years of the team’s research, president Chris Antonetti said. Six of them are in Class AA and one of them, Jhonkensy Noel, spent last year in Class-A ball.
”More than anything, we view it as a sign of organizational health,” Antonetti said.
Knowing the deadline was looming, I kept waiting all summer and fall for a flurry of trades to thin the herd of prospects. It never happened, so Antonetti instead protected as many as they could. He did say, however, that the looming work stoppage did not seem to impact any sort of trade negotiations.
“This past week was one of the most active that we’ve had (in trade talks) partially because we have a lot of players other teams are interested in, both players we added, some of the players we removed and players we left unprotected,” Antonetti said. “It was a very busy and active week. We explored a lot of different things and laid some groundwork. Where that will lead is really difficult to predict.”
The puzzle isn’t complete, even though the 40-man roster is now full. Any free-agent additions might require the removal of a current major leaguer and trades, of course, are still possible.
“One of the things we did have to weigh is how do we construct a major-league team and look at where each player is in the developmental process and the likelihood that he can contribute to our major-league team in the near future,” Antonetti said. “You can’t just have a 40-man roster of players contributing in the minor leagues. We need those players to contribute for us in the major leagues as well.”

Re: General Discussion
12667Reviewing through the roster this is a VERY young group of 40. And interested to note that Clase, after his one year suspension and one year breakout, is still younger than many of the "kids" added last Friday.

12668"Trades"
Nov. 22: RHP J.C. Mejía traded to Brewers for a player to be named later or cash considerations
Mejía was one of the seven players Cleveland designated for assignment on Friday to clear space on the 40-man roster for its younger prospects.
Nov. 22: OF Harold Ramirez traded to Cubs for cash considerations
Like J.C. Mejía, Ramirez was one of the players released on Friday evening. He played in 99 games for Cleveland in 2021.

Re: General Discussion
12669We knew we'd be getting some guys like Leon for spring training and maybe beyond.
Nov. 22: Guardians sign Sandy León to a Minor League deal
Cleveland's catching depth is hurting after the team declined Roberto Pérez's $7 million option for next season. In order to give them some options, the Guardians inked León to a Minor League deal with an invite to big league Spring Training. Léon spent this past season in Miami after being with Cleveland in 2020.

12671we won 80 games in 2021; I bet he wins fewer over those 3 years. We get the better bargain.
Re: General Discussion
12672Non tender decisions coming up today.
The Guardians have seven players eligible for arbitration and they are all expected to be offered contracts by Tuesday’s 8 p.m. deadline. Wednesday’s 11:59 p.m. expiration date on the current basic agreement and the potential lockout that may follow have caused a free-agent spending frenzy among MLB teams. Those two events also caused the non-tender deadline to be moved from Dec. 2 to Tuesday night.
The non-tender deadline requires teams to offer all unsigned players on their 40-man roster with less than six years service time contracts for 2022. If those players aren’t offered contracts, they become free agents.
Guardians players Amed Rosario ($5 million), Shane Bieber ($4.8 million), Franmil Reyes ($4.4 million), Austin Hedges ($3.8 million), Cal Quantrill ($2.8 million), Bradley Zimmer ($1.5) and Josh Naylor ($1.2 million) are unsigned and eligible for arbitration. The dollar figures next to each player’s name represent the projected amount they could earn in arbitration, according to calculations by mlbtraderumors.
Hedges, Rosario, Reyes, Bieber and Zimmer automatically qualified for arbitration because they have three plus years of service time. Quantrill and Naylor qualified as super two players meaning they were in the upper 22% of the players with more than two, but fewer than three years of service time.
The super two cutoff this year was two years and 116 days. Quantrill had two years and 132 days and Naylor two years and 127 days. Center fielder Myles Straw just missed qualifying with two years and 112 days.
Cleveland usually tries to have most of its arbitration-eligible players signed before the non-tender deadline comes and goes. If not, the next step would be an exchange of salary figures. When last season started the exchange date was Jan. 14 at 1 p.m. But if there’s a lockout, that process could be disrupted.

Re: General Discussion
12675Who says the Guardians are standing still this winter:
Just today they signed RH reliever Enyel de los Santos. In 33 games this year on the two Pennsylvania teams he had an ERA of 6.37; 8 homers in 35 innings; 18 walks and an impressive 48 strikeouts. He had some games with the Phillies in '18 and '19 too, not pitching any better.
OK, so he's not Max Scherzer
