As someone who watches the Mets quite a bit I do know quite a bit about Rosario and Gimenez. So does NY Post reporter Joel Sherman.

For starters, Gimenez replaced Rosario last September as the SS and their defense improved quite a bit. The Mets loved his baseball IQ and that was confirmed today (on MLB Network) by Joel Sherman who called his baseball IQ "off the charts."

Sherman also pointed out that Rosario has crazy talent, hence his high prospect status, but nowhere near the baseball IQ and disposition as Gimenez.

Sherman said that Gimenez should be the SS in Cleveland. He saw Rosario as a utility type player with high offensive upside.

Also, I do know that many in NY thought that Rosario was labeled a superstar at SS very early in NY and that affected him. This is New York we are talking about - many a good player did not thrive there.

A move to a place where no one knows who he is could be a great starting over.

So personally I am pretty impressed that they got 4 young players of that caliber back in an era where everyone, but everyone, is cutting back except a very few.

The Tribe found one of the spenders and maximized their return. For a guy who would walk without getting anything in one year.

I guess that will be the approach for the foreseeable future. The only 30 year old in the lineup will be Roberto Perez until they turn that job over to Hedges

The oldest pitchers: Plutko! and Wittgren both 29. Phil Maton 27. Cam Hill and Scott Moss 26. The entire rotation and back of the bullpen 25 or younger!

civ - I do think the market is totally flooded now and prices are dropping fast. (Actually that's fact, not opinion) Many teams are doing exactly what the Indians are doing

Blake Snell of the Rays had THREE years left on his contract when he got dealt to SD a couple weeks ago.

It's a good time for a bargain.

So, no doubt the strategy is (as it is with MANY teams) to cut guys like Hand and then use that to sign 2-3 players with the same money.

Some very good players will be taking below (past years') market value

Trevor Bauer continues to have lots of fun making announcements about his opinions on who should sign him and why. He says White Sox should make him an offer now since the ALC is a two team race between CHI and MIN. He wants to be able to pitch every 4 days. He wants to of course train his own way. He wants to continue his non-baseball ventures. He loves all the attention. He may wind up doing a multiyear deal but he's having so much fun he really should sign for one year so he can play this game again every winter.

Absolutely nothing going on with signings. If they really expected to have spring training starting in less than a month, they would at least be signing some minor league free agents and issuing Non Roster Invitations.

Checked other AL team websites for comparison:

NY, Balt, Chix, Twins, KC, LA and Sea also have no invitees.
Tigers and Houston one each.
More serious are Toronto with 4, Texas 8, Tampa 8, Boston 9 and the A's 14.

Among the invitees are a few guys we know: AJ Cole [Blue Jays]; Hunter Wood [Texas]; and minor leaguer Argenis Angulo [A's]

Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Indians have re-signed second baseman Cesar Hernandez, pending a physical.

Per Zack Meisel of The Athletic, it's a one-year deal with a club option for 2022.

With Hernandez coming back, this could be a sign that the Indians want to try the recently-acquired Amed Rosario in the outfield. Hernandez, 30, batted .283/.355/.408 with three home runs and 20 RBI over 58 games during the 2020 campaign.
