It was abnormally cool and wet in late November here in Phoenix too. Tucson and Phoenix have very similar weather.

Domingo Santana is in Goodyear and has had his physical. As long as results come back good his deal will be finalized. (he had an injured elbow last year.

He is a guy who is terrible in the field and strikes out at a rate that would make Mike Napoli blush. But he hits a homer every now and then so it's all OK I guess.

many of the remaining free agents signed in the last couple days; Cameron Maybin returns to his old home in Detroit; Giants pick up IF Wilmer Flores and RHP Trevor Cahill. Brad Miller to the Cardinals. Josh Tomlin back to the Braves on a minor league deal.
Puig remains unsigned.
And so is Mr. Calf Lonnie Chisenhall.

Happy it's just a meniscus. 4-6 weeks is typical for those. I know many people who have had those.

That said, then building up the arm has to happen too. But it's 6 weeks or so until the regular season so it's not horrible. My guess is May 1 -ish.

So much for having extra starting pitchers. Plutko is in!

nice start to the spring. Yes we still have starting depth but deleting Kluber Bauer and Clevinger all from 2019 cohort puts pressure on:

Carrasco to be able to start 32 games with chronic leukemia
Bieber to avoid any slippage from his breakout season
Lesser prospects Plesac and Civale not having common second year slides, like all sorts of past young starters e.g. David Huff, Jeremy Sowers, Aaron Laffey.
Triston McKenzie to stay in shape and prepare for the majors
Logan Allen to get back into Top 100 prospect form

Fantasy mag:

Domingo Santana is not a perfect fit because both he and Franmil Reyes would be better suited as DH's due to their poor defense. Santana hit .253 with 21 HR, 63 R, 69 RBI, and 8 SB in 121 games.

He went on the IL in August with an elbow injury and only got 10 AB's the rest of the way. This is also an injury he dealt with prior to going on the injured list. He hit .286 with 18 HR, 52 R, 63 RBI, and 6 SB in the first half (90 GP) compared to .186 AVG with 3 HR, 11 R, 6 RBI, and 2 SB in the second half (31 GP).

If you look at a rolling graph of his average exit velocities there is a huge drop off in June. Santana said that his elbow had been bothering him since the All-Star break which gives an explanation for his drop in production. He is someone to buy before the price goes up.

So I checked on his strikeouts; in those first 90 games and 399 plate appearances he fanned 116 times or 29%
in the short second half he had 108 plate appearances an impressive 48K or 44%
So these are significantly skewed as well.

Let's hope he has a good elbow all season.
