Just watched a press conference with Franmil Reyes, meeting our press. Someone asked him what he thought of spending next several years in Cleveland. And he told a great story.

Back when he was playing in Low-A ball, he met his wife in Lake County when his team was in town playing the Captains! So he said the area has a special place for him.

By the way, Bauer posted a really nice video to his Twitter account. A thank you and goodbye to Cleveland. It’s a worthy few minutes of your time.

Wow, that was really special. Win it for Trevor this year?? Thanks HB!

Seagull, I guess it was not about the money !
It's always about the money.

Reds made a good deal.

Guess the Indians coughed up the difference.

To be clear, it was about the money for the Reds, not our Cleveland Indians. This time.

Many felt before the season that moves like trading Gomes (great deal) and Alonso (he got cut off White Sox) were to enable midseason flexibility. Let it be remembered that that DID happen.

Those were about the money but it paid off later. Handsomely since those both turned out to be great moves.

I don't think it's hard at all to imagine the front office saying to Dolan that they could get a better return if they paid the salary. And make no mistake about it, Dolan agreed.

In my best rusty2 voice, "This front office is one of the best in baseball." And little argument within the industry.

TFIR:

Just heard on pregame show ... Puig is lifetime .429 hitter against Cole...

Totally agree. The moves we made before the season was about money. But after that we were fine. And they knew all along they would pick up a bat at the deadline for the stretch run. Cheaper that way, and already had budget for it thanks to prior salary dumps.

Indians have placed Salazar and Olsen on IL. Called up recent acquisitions Wood and Maton, righty relievers, from Columbus.

(Personally, as soon as this new groin injury heals, I'd DFA Salazar. Get him out of the way of someone who might be able to come up and contribute)

Also, Neil Ramirez has been granted his release.

Corey Kluber (arm) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.

That's provided that he feels fine on Sunday after throwing 35 pitches in his simulated game on Saturday. The right-hander continues to make strides in the right direction and barring any setbacks it appears that he'll be ready to rejoin the Indians' rotation in mid-August, giving them a nice boost as they attempt to run down the Twins in the American League Central.

Trevor Bauer allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Braves in his Reds debut on Saturday.
Bauer served up seven hits, including four extra-base hits. He was touched up for a pair of runs on four hits, including three extra-base hits, before being lifted with two outs in the fifth inning.

So, to me, this demonstrates why getting 2 position players who help every day was a great move. A starting pitcher, if he has a bad outing, now sits out for 4 days while Reyes and Puig can continue to contribute every day.

Meanwhile, in our situation, we have some pitching depth (Plutko outpitches Bauer last night) and the beat goes on for the Tribe.

Look, no one is saying Pluko = Bauer. But rather that our pitching depth together can help compensate for Bauer's loss while at the same time the lineup takes a quantum leap. (Not a high bar to jump over there)

Season ticket renewals are this Friday. I have a 20 game plan but my son has a job in New York next summer. Would anyone have an interest in 5 or 10 games? The tickets are on a Friday or a Monday in Section 164. The Indians also make it easy to trade for other games. We would also get playoff priority this year which we could prorate based on the commitment.

If anyone is interested, I will get you my contact info.

GREG ALLEN
OF, CLEVELAND INDIANS

Indians recalled OF Greg Allen from Triple-A Columbus.
He replaces the injured Jordan Luplow (hamstring) on the 25-man roster. Allen has hit just .230/.296/.381 with two home runs and two stolen bases in 127 plate appearances with the Indians this season. Don't expect him to be fantasy relevant.

JORDAN LUPLOW
OF, CLEVELAND INDIANS

Indians placed OF Jordan Luplow on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
Luplow suffered the injury on a slide into third base on Monday. It's unclear how much time he'll need to miss. Greg Allen has been called up from Triple-A to take his spot on the active roster.
