OK, I'm sold on Naquin. I wish he drew some walks and he probably won't be a star but he can play any OF position and hits well enough to at least share a position.
Luplow also has proven that he's a major league semi regular.
Mercado is at least at that was expected.
Bauers probably belongs at 1st base but can handle LF; and his hitting is not up to what he seems capable of reaching.
So that leaves us no room for Martin who's hit a surprising number of homers and stole home and otherwise is terrible. Tigers will probably win that trade since Willi Castro is about ready to make his major league debut.

in reference to that impressive draft list, Capel was only part of the package for Mercado. Jhon Torres was NO. 2 prospect in the AZL. Cards tried him in Low A at age 18 and he was greatly overmatched. Now back down in the Appy League. It will a long time before they learn if they got something out him.
Meanwhile Capel who's only 22 himself had a pretty bad debut in AA, for some reason moved up to AAA and has been on fire.

It does put a whole different face on why they were trying to move Kluber and Bauer this past offseason.

Load your staff up with the Plesacs and Civales and then use your resources to get offense. Too bad it didn't pan out in retrospect.

I still think they almost HAVE to deal Bauer still though. They can replace him. AND his value drops a lot after the season with only 1 more year of control after that.

Teams would pony up for him for sure.

And, likely when they didn't get their price for him they figured they could try again at the deadline.

Fair enough, UD. But it is the same Detroit team that has smacked Hand around for 4 hits and a run in 2 innings last two days. (And could have been worse if not for Naquin’s play) It’s the majors.

Was happy for him. He had a brother that flew in all the way from Hawaii to watch too. Glad that long trip was worth it.
