Spent the day in Goodyear today. I haven't been back there since 2008. Not much has changed except for a little more development around the park.

Stopped at the lower fields and watched a little batting practice for the major camp. Took a walk down to the minor fields hoping to catch some minor action. The security guy told us the minors were done for the day...11 AM. He showed me the schedule for the day...9:30 stretch...10-11workout. done. Glad they're working so hard.

Joba Chamberlain and his son (about 10 or 11 ) were shagging balls in the OF. He signed quite a few autographs on the way to the field and seemed very personable when he was signing. There were a couple of young kids standing near me and I asked if they got any balls yet. They looked real sad when they told me they didn't have any. I called over to Chamberlain told him the kids didn't have any balls yet. He threw me a couple over the fence for them.

I had to explain to my neighbor about Chamberlain, when he played for the Skanks, and was attacked by midges one night in Cleveland and the fans loved it.

As we sat down to watch the game at the stadium, the scoreboard flashed game time temperature. Cleveland OH 72, Goodyear AZ 66.

Impressions from the game.

Bauer's line was better than he actually pitched. Outfield and Napoli made some plays on hard hit balls. He has trouble repeating his delivery from the windup. His rhythm seems rushed and balance problems at the top of his delivery resulted in a couple of pitches being so far out of the zone it wasn't close.



The best pitcher of the day was Clevinger....wild shoulder length hair.

Jose Ramirez must be on the juice. Hit the ball hard 2 out of 3 ABs. Almost hit one out. Double high off the wall and then he gets thrown out trying to figure out whether to stay at second or try for third. He also made an error on a routine ground ball to 3rd.

Napoli and Uribe hit a couple of balls hard. Uribe is not as fat as I thought he'd be. Still could lose some weight. Santana could lose a few pounds also. Rest of the guys looked in good shape if not skinny.

Our seats were right behind the Tribe dugout. Lots of clowning around. Somebody (couldn't see) was throwing mini water balloons around.

Guest clown in the dugout today was Carlos Baerga. Wasn't listed as a coach or special assistant but he was in the dugout slapping guys on the back and talking up a storm.

Nice day out.

Beautiful weather.

Better hope the pitching holds up because the bats aren't there to contend.

Battle of the Cy Young winners today: Kluber vs. Arriata

My mind is failing me I guess. Back to back posts proves it.

Carrasco, who's as good a candidate to win the Cy Young as anyone in the AL, with a nearly perfect 3 innings, he allowed one single, struck out 4.

TJ. House not so hot, one easy inning, then 4 runs while retiring only 2 in his second inning.

Austin Adams walked two in his inning.
Joba Chamberlin walked two around a double in his inning.

Outfield battle, some of the candidates had good days at the plate:

Cowgill with a two-run double and walked.
Shane Robinson singled and doubled and stole a base.
Butler walked in two trips.

Meanwhile, Zach Walters gidp, still hitless, but he did add a sac fly. Ramsey struck out, he's hitting 057. Venable his first hit of the spring.

Jose Ramirez stays hot with a single, double and two rbi.

Ramirez has 3 hits as Indians beat Padres 9-4 GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Jose Ramirez had three hits, including one of the Cleveland Indians' four-run scoring doubles Thursday in a 9-4 win over the San Diego Padres.

Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor and Collin Cowgill also had RBI doubles.

"Frankie fought off some tough pitches but hung in there," Indians' manager Terry Francona said.

Collin Cowgill, trying to earn a job in the Indians outfield, doubled in two runs off Tyson Ross, who allowed two runs and four hits over three innings in his second start for San Diego. He pitched two scoreless innings in his initial outing.

"It was nice to throw some changeups in the game," Ross said. "It's another pitch for hitters to think about. It's unfamiliar to me."

Jemile Weeks doubled and Christian Bethancourt tripled in a four-run seventh off T.J House, who is competing for the fifth spot in the Indians' rotation.

Carlos Carrasco allowed one hit in three innings for the Indians, striking out four. Joba Chamberlain, in camp with a minor league contract, pitched out of a bases-loaded jam by retiring Cory Spangenberg on a flyout.

Ramirez was hit in the shoulder on a bad hop ground ball by Matt Kemp in the sixth inning. He was checked by trainers and stayed in the game.

"Ramirez is a tough kid," Francona said. "We stretched some guys out today. We need to build their innings

Indians first base coach Sandy Alomar Jr. invited the pit crew for NASCAR driver Carl Edwards to the game.

The Padres have a public speaker talk to the team on a weekly basis. First year manager Andy Green and Ross initiated the event this season. Jocko Willink, the author of "Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALS Lead and Win," is to speak to the team next. "I read his book," Ross said. "It's a team building program. We can all get to know each other and learn something. Our situation as baseball players is not as dire as theirs."

STARTING TIME

Padres: Tyson Ross, who will make his first opening-day start against the Dodgers on April 4, went to the bullpen after his outing to get extra work.

"I got up and down four times,' Ross said. "I'm working on getting my delivery in sync. We decided that I work on it in the bullpen after I left the game."

Indians: Carlos Carrasco is working to change his arm angle to keep from tipping his pitches.

"Last year when I threw the fastball my arm was up. When I threw the breaking ball it was down," Carrasco said. "The hitters can tell what you're throwing. My arm was in the same spot today."

TRAINER'S ROOM

Padres: RHP Fernando Rodney and Kevin Quackenbush pitched batting practice on Tuesday. They are expected to pitch in a game on Friday. Both have tight hamstrings.

Indians: Michael Brantley is taking batting practice and is to field on Friday.

UP NEXT

Padres: RHP James Shields is scheduled to start against the Chicago White Sox on Friday.

Indians: RHP Cody Anderson is slated to start for Cleveland.

Not a good sign.

Tribe took most of the regular starters to Scottsdale today and the bats were silent.

A very rare poor start by an Indians pitcher. Mike Clevinger leaves in the 3rds inning, he complted 2 IP, walked a pair allowed 5 hits one a homer. 3 runs, only 1 earned, but mostly his own fault today.

Meanwhile JoshTomlin who hasn't been anything special this spring fanned 4 in 3 innings, but his standard HR led to 2 runs.

For our guys, Napolie with a 3 run blast, followed by Gomes with another homer for 4 1st inning runs.

I see Davis is 0-2 dropping his avg to 48. Venable also 0-2 is hitting 61.

Columbus-bound Urshela with his team-leading 3rd homer ties up one of the games 3-3 in the 4th.
