That rain falling in the 9th was as hard as any rain I ever witnessed in my 11 years in California. Bay Area rains, unless maybe they are pushed by a high wind Pacific storm, never fall as hard as they often do in Florida and the Southeastern US.

Super series for Marco Scutaro, and apparently it happened to a great family guy and of course an already known scrappy and hustling baseball player.

There was hardly a scenario where I would have pulled for Detroit in The World Series, but it'll be nice now to sit back and watch The San Francisco Giants. Having witnessed scores of games in that ballpark, including most of those of The Cleveland Indians the past several years, it will once again be easy to latch onto The San Francisco Giant bandwagon.

I've mentioned before, but it's a neat moment to depart that ballpark and listen to the lyrics of Tony Bennett being piped throughout the stadium exits after an evening game.

"As wild as it gets." As illustrated by Pence's screwball double, the #SFGiants took bizarre path to the #WorldSeries: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd ... b&c_id=mlb

Thanks, Rusty. I wasn't watching when that happened real time.

Two or three knocks on the same pitch with just one breaking and shattering bat, and a soft liner to short cleared the loaded bases.

I was watching when that bizarre Pence hit took place and was grateful for all the replays. At first I couldn't understand why the SS would break the wrong way but after seeing the movement on the seams in the ultra-super-duper-slo-mo it made sense--the ball tailed in the direction opposite to what one would have expected. It curved back toward the middle of the diamond! No wonder the SS leaned the wrong way.

I've been a Barry Zito fan for a long time, well since I met a girl in California late in the Clinton presidency, who later became my wife.

Zito had the "space cadet" label from the media early in his career, but he has gritted it out, labored and persevered through all the note of his field problems with regard to the size his contract.

I've always believed the Barry Zito "space head" portrayal was not accurate, and that Zito is a solid guy with diverse interests.

I'm super pleased he laid the foundation for the bridge to win the NLCS, and now has put down the pilings for another possible bridge in The World Series.

Sometimes athletes earn their money in clumps along the contract years, it seems.

Pedro Sandoval.

Wow. I should have bought those penguin hats when they were 3 for $15 late last season.

Americans love great performing athletes who do not physically look like they should be great performing athletes.

San Francisco is now up over Detroit 3-0 in World Series games.

I liked Detroit in 1968.

I've hated Detroit since Billy Martin was Manager and dissed a faster than franchise norm Cleveland Indians season start under his Detroit tenure saying something like, "they're going down, come back and let's talk about them in a month."

Of course, I've hated Michigan since I knew how to pronounce the place.

Still, I expected more gamesmanship and fight to win than this.....even if it's just Detroit.

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said Tuesday that the club will not attempt to re-sign Delmon Young.

The Tigers see Young as a DH, so he would be superfluous with Victor Martinez coming back. Young batted just .267/.296/.411 with 18 home runs, 74 RBI and a .707 OPS this year, but enjoyed an excellent postseason. The 27-year-old will likely be on the lookout for a multi-year deal, though his market could be a bit limited. Dombrowski also doesn't expect to pursue Jose Valverde, but has interest in retaining Anibal Sanchez.
