Meanwhile Clippers fall 6-5 despite 3 hits from Jason Donald batting 336 and wondering why he is not with the Indians. He didn't play OF today, in case you're wondering. Kipnis falls to 279 on another hitless day, but did walk and hit a sac fly.

On the mound, Chen Lee's error on a pickoff allows his first AAA run, unearned natch, so he's now up to 14 1/3 innings with an era of 0.00. 2 K in his 2 innings is little below his pace. He's also getting 3 ground outs for every 1 air out.

Josh Judy 1 shutout inning with no hits or walks, 1 K. ERA 2.72.

Justin Germano stared and let in 5 runs on 12 hits in 6 innings.

And Captains win it 3 in the bottom of the 9th, 16-15. Alex Monsalve delivers the winning hit. The previous 2 in the inning scored on another wild pitch, and a sac fly.

Monsalve finishes with 4 hits. As does Aguillar. Moncrief with 3 hits and 3 walks in 7 trips to the plate. Urshela with 2 and Indians' hitting coach Bruce Fields' son Aaron with 2, too.

Mere 12 hits and 8 runs for the Aeros in their 8-4 win. TJ McFarland, 22 year old 6-3 lefty, doesn't throw especially hard, but has an effective night, winning his 8th game, he was a 3rd round pick from high school. 8 7 2 2 0 7.

The New Beau Mills with his 11th homer, hitting 300.
Chun Chen singles and doubles, 283
2 hits for SS Juan Diaz and John Drugfree Drennen.
Aeros turn a 5-4-3 triple play

Here is a top 20 list I put together based on performance to date. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

With White and Chisenhall qualifying (stats as of 1/17) current draft picks excluded

1. Pomeranz
2. White
3. Kipnis (1 K every 5 AB's)
4. Chisenhall
5. Barnes (99 ip, 85 hits 36 bb 107k's)
6. Phelps (843 OPS)
7. Hagadone (48 ip 37 hits 15 bb and 50k's)
8. CC Lee (50 ip 14BB 70K)
9. McAllister (97ip 86 hits 71k's 21BB)
10. Gomez (93 ip 83 hits 75 k's and 29 BB)
11. Rondon -- good numbers at AAA and now healthy
12. Weglarz -- Good numbers until this year, high upside
13. Soto -- (56 ip 49 hits 58 k's and 18 BB) hopefully the injury is not serious
14. Bryson -- (14ip 6 hits 20K 3 BB) great numbers when healthy
15. Adams -- (85 ip 82 Ks 46 BB) converted to pitching and holding his own at AA, needs to improve control
16. Wolters 789 OPS
17. Chen (793 OPS but k's once every 3.5 AB's)
18. Stowell -- Has great stuff and is healthy but has not moved up, hmmm
19. Elvis Arujo -- Great Stuff and healthy -- see baseball prospectus write up
Who: Elvis Araujo, LHP, Cleveland Indians
The case for: This 20-year-old lefty has a huge (Sabathia-like) body and a very promising fastball. The Venezuelan uses an overhand delivery and is very “arm-y” in his release, but the stuff looked very good. His fastball was in the 92-95 range during his five innings of work, touching 97 on one occasion http://www.baseballprospectus.com/artic ... leid=14555
20. Beau Mills (844 OPS and only k's this year 1 in 7 ab's)

Others who almost made it
Washington and Knapp on potential
Putnam
Goodnight -- good numbers
Monsalve -- Very good numbers

One of the great things about baseball is that names not on these prospects list sometimes turn out to be better. I bet Tomlin and his 88 mph fastball wasnt on too many lists. Was Pestano on any lists?

Buck:

Good list. I did one on Page 53 and we have lots in common. I left out Chis, Phelps and Gomez who I'm assuming aren't or soon won't qualify anymore as rookies. The only significant additions I'd maake would be Luigi Rodriguez who is looking great in Arizona and Felix Sterling who's pitching well down there too. And I suppose Jesus Aguillar who might be a K machine but might be a slugger, who knows (20 bombs already). I put him 15th. And Zach Putnam who seems like another solid reliever.

Some of the 2011 draftees are off to good starts: Lowrey, Jordan Smith (catcher and 3b in Mahoning Valley) and Jake Sisco (pitcher in Arizona). I'd keep Lavisky on the same line as Washington; Alex has about a dozen homers between Lake County and Mahoning Valley.
