The final plucky Dent in the Boston wicket.
Good baseball.
And Ken Burns has material for one more addition to his work.

The timing was impeccable! There couldn't have been more than a minutes separation between being playoff bound or home bound. Can you believe it?

Amazing night in MLB.
As the ESPN guys are appropriately noting.
I'm out for a respite and light viewing of Criminal Minds with my lovely wife.

Something to keep in mind: if Selig had his way and we had a second wild card, this night never happens.
Of course, the whole reason they are talking about a second wild card is to make it even less likely that the Yankees and Red Sox can ever miss the playoffs, so in that respect, it might be closer than ever to happening.

Truly sorry, J.R.
I know how much it hurts, even with a loss on any one our 2nd or 3rd levels of Fandom.
I'm a three decade South Carolina Gamecock Fan and have had to balance that around four kids who did NOT attend South Carolina, but have attended schools who play The Cocks each or most seasons.
But I still live for Ohio State Football.
It's my life, and I am happy for it.

CALI: I'm not hurting, but it will be a bit less interesting now for me. And I think it was easier for even diehard fans to accept this year, since the Sox were collapsing for the last month. Last night was just the capper. Plus, they have 2 WS championships in the last 10 years.

Yeah, I think that part tends to soften the blow. I know the Spurs losing to the 8th seed in the NBA playoffs this past year was a little easier for me to take coming on the heels of 4 rings.
What I love about Sox fans is how they've wanted so much to read Manny Ramirez out of respectable Boston sports history, and yet they didn't win before he got there and haven't won since he left. At some point they're going to have to acknowledge who their best player post-Ted Williams has been.

I am in this order:
1. A baseball fan.
2. An MLB fan.
3. An Indians fan.
4. A fan especially of some particular Indians.
5. etc. through the hierarchy.
I hope there is still a place here for those who can appreciate what happens outside of Indians games.
...
As for the playoffs, ... ANYbody but the Yankees!!!

At this moment I'm on Texas or Philly, with a nod to cast off Charlie Manuel.
That could change though.
I'm far from motivated to watch the playoffs, though I know I eventually will.

I am an Indians fan and an Indians minor league fan. That's about it. I like to check the box scores for other games. I'm on baseball break until mid-February except for checking in on the Arizona Fall League and waiting for Baseball America's Top 30 prospect list in December or January (which will be a tough one to create this year since we have so few prospects, at least prospects old enough to drink.)

Kelly Shopvac with a rare start pummels Texas pitching with a pair of homer, three hits, and five rbis. Matt Moore, a rookie with three games and nine total innings to his credit, gets the start, tosses a seven inning two hitter, while striking out six and walking only two. WoW! Can you believe that?!?!

Gotta love Madden! That took a lot of guts no matter how you slice it.

I wonder if any Red Sox fans today lamented they used to have Shoppach and Damon.
Probably not.

Not that I really care but Detroit is getting screwed with the game starting in the middle of the 2nd inning.
Their three batters who made the outs in the top of the 2nd were facing Sabathia in what seemed like the hardest rain I've ever seen fall during a ball game that continued play.
After the Tigger outs, the game was halted and the Yankees did not bat in the same conditions.
New York essentially gets 3 extra outs when the game resumes at the 1-1 tie.

AnnnnnD, I'm guessing that they won't have to face Verlander for the remainder of this series. Gotta love it!
