Power of Astudillo and Reyes catapulted Caribes in the second game of the final

With home runs by Willians Astudillo and Víctor Reyes, Caribes de Anzoátegui beat Navegantes del Magallanes 5-4 on Wednesday to take the lead in the series 2-0 and be just two wins away from their first championship.

Magallanes took advantage of starter Henry Centeno and went ahead with two runs in the second inning after a bases-loaded walk to Alejandro De Aza and a grounder by Arturo Nieto.

But Caribes equalized the game in the third with a run by the experienced Asdrúbal Cabrera against the lefty Yohander Méndez.

The Navigantes regained control of the game with a triple by Arturo Nieto that made it 3-2. And once again, Anzoantegui turned the tables, this time with a two-run home run by Willians Astudillo off Dominican Jumbo Díaz.

Magallanes tied it again (4-4) in the sixth on a base hit by Gabriel Noriega. And again the power of the Caribes appeared to make the difference. Víctor Reyes homered off Wilking Rodríguez to hang up the final 5-4.

The Mexican Estaban Haro was injured in the eighth inning and Silvino Bracho then came out for the four out save, the second of the series.

Astudillo, 2-2, and Cabrera, 1-3, both finished with a pair of RBIs.

Haro (1-0) got the victory after a relief of a perfect inning. And Wilking Rodríguez was charged with the loss.

The Caribes, who already swept the Cardenales de Lara in the last final, goes "calm" to Valencia, where the final series resumes this Wednesday.

Peguero and Ozuna lead Giants offense against Stars; lead the finals 2-1

SAN PEDRO DE MACORIS, RD.- Carlos Peguero and Marcell Ozuna led the offensive of the Cibao Giants that on Wednesday night won the game 10-5 against the local Estrellas Orientales, in the clash played at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium , from this city.

Peguero had a double and single with which he drove in four runs and scored one to be the inspiring spark plug for the Gians. Marcell Ozuna was 3-3, with a home run , two rbi and three runs scored.

Ozuna put his team up 6-5 by hitting his second home run of the final series, achieved on consecutive nights, since on Tuesday he had a three run homer in the 6-3 win to tie the finals 1-1 at the Julián Stadium Javier, in San Francisco de Macoris.

By winning this Tuesday, their second game won in a row, the Giants lead 2-1 in the best of 7 series in the 2021-22 Winter League Baseball Tournament.

This Thursday is a rest day and will continue on Friday with the third game of the series.

Other hitters who stood out for the Giants were Hansel Alberto with a double and a single, drove in one run and scored three times; Kelvin Gutiérrez had two hits, scored one and batted in one; Moisés Sierra and Richard Ureña doubles and each had one-run singles, respectively. The Giants had a total of 14 hits.

Ramón Vázquez on the opportunity to win the championship in Mayagüez: “I hope to finish this tomorrow”

Caguas.- The local Criollos knocked out the Indios on Wednesday 10-2 in the fourth game of the final series of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League and on Thursday they will go to Mayagüez in search of dealing the last blow in the fight for the championship.

Caguas, with a 3-1 advantage, will visit Mayagüez on Thursday at the Isidoro "Cholo" García Stadium with the opportunity to win the 'back to back' and the manager Ramón Vázquez hopes to leave with the trophy in hand, as happened in last season.

"I hope to finish this tomorrow (Thursday)", said the Criollos pilot, after the beating of the Indios in the fourth game held at the Yldefonso Solá Morales Stadium.

Caguas will be going after a third victory on the road in this series. They won the first game and the third.

“It is a familiar scenario for us. But you have to go and get 27 outs. This is not over,” Vázquez said.

Yordy Cabrera will start for the Criollos and Eric Stout for the Indians.

“Yordy is on four days rest and we also have a fresh bullpen. I think we are in a great position for tomorrow's game."

Caguas attacked Indians starter Hector Hernandez early Wednesday with four runs in the first inning on David Vidal's grand slam. Three other criollos also hit solo home runs: Engel Beltré, Nelson Velázquez and Edwin Díaz.

Meanwhile, Nivaldo Rodríguez pitched six shutout innings to win the game.

“Héctor made a mistake with Vidal and we were able to capitalize early. And we also executed excellently on defense,” Vázquez said.

The Indios need to change their name to Guardianes.

JALISCO PUT CHARROS CLOSE TO THE TITLE

CULIACÁN.- Charros de Jalisco basks in the glory of Mexican baseball. A brilliant start by Orlando Lara and with Christian Villanueva on fire, the Charros beat Culiacán 8-2 to go up 3 games to 2 in the Final Series.

The left-hander from Veracruz pitched for six innings, in which he only allowed 4 hits, 2 runs, struck out 5, left his PCL at 0.00 and obtained his first victory in the finals; After Orlando's performance, Jared Wilson went up to the hill from the bullpen, worked 2 innings, in which he struck out two and Roberto Osuna ended it by fanning Víctor Mendoza.

Culiacan took advantage of a couple of miscues by the Charros' defense in the first translating into a couple of runs for Culiacán scored by Ramiro Peña and Sebastián Elizalde.

However, Jalisco quickly responded and in the top of the second Dariel Álvarez and Félix Pérez opened the shootout with a couple of singles and it would be Dariel who would score after a double by Christian Villanueva, but the attack did not stop there, as Amadeo Zazueta hit a line drive to center and Pérez scored, as well as Villanueva, who scored after an error by Fabela.

In the sixth inning, an extra-base hit by Álvarez and with one out, Villanueva homered to left and the lead increased 5-2.

But the pyrotechnics show did not end there, since Félix Pérez hit a homer to right field, batting in Japhet Amador and Álvarez increasing the lead to 8-2, in favor of Jalisco.

Charros de Jalisco will travel this Thursday to Guadalajara to receive the Tomateros de Culiacán next Friday in game 6 of the Final Series, and for which Javier Solano and Nick Struck, respectively, are announced as starters.

Caimanes was one win away from retaining the title

With another great comeback, Caimanes defeated the Cowboys 6-5 and was one victory away from defending the title of the Colombian Professional Baseball League.

The team from Barranquilla, with two runs in the seventh inning and three more in the eighth, turned the scoreboard around and put the series 3-1 in their favor.

The Cowboys, for the second consecutive day, squandered a four-run lead against Caimanes, achieved from the great pitching work carried out by starter Francisco Jiménez for six innings.

Andrés Angulo also stood out for the Montería team, who had three hits in four at-bats, including a two-run homer in the fifth that put the game at 4-0.

Before Angulo, also in the fifth, Brayan Buelvas hit a solo home run to the opposite field. Both home runs were connected off of starter Porfilio López.

Dilson Herrera gave life to the Caimanes in the fifth by opening with a double and then scoring after a single by Sandy León down the first base line and had an altercation with pitcher Jiménez, which caused the dugouts and bullpens of both teams to empty.

The Caimanes took advantage of Jiménez's exit, in the seventh, to close the gap. His reliever, Edubray Ramos, walked Dilson Herrera and Robinson Cabrera and then Mauricio Ramos singled to drive in Dilson.

That was it for Edubray Ramos, who made way for Hugo Beltrán, who walked Sandy León to load the bases. Roberto Caro hit a single that drove in Cabrera, but León was caught between second and third and Tsung Che Cheng struck out to end Cowboys' anguish.

In the eighth, with Jeffry Niño in the box for Cowboys, Caimanes consummated the comeback. Carlos Arroyo and Harold Ramírez received walks and pinch-hitter Manuel Joseph bunted the ball, Niño picked it up and forced Arroyo at third.

Closer Víctor Capellán entered for Jeffry Niño and Dilson Herrera hit a double that produced the tie on Ramírez's legs. Robinson Cabrera was intentionally walked and Brallan Pérez grounded out to shortstop where Dayan Frias made a blunder when the ball spun out of his control as he was about to throw to second to start a double play.

Joseph scored on the play to put Caimanes up 5-4. The sixth inning produced a run on a sacrifice fly by Sandy León that batted in Dilson for a 6-4 lead.

In the ninth, The Cowboys added drama to the game after the Caimanes closer David Méndez walked Jordan Díaz. Luis Castro entered to run and advanced to second on wild pitch and third on passed ball. In the middle of it, Méndez struck out Elier Hernández and retired Osmy Gregorio short to first when the unexpected happened.

Dayan Frías hit a fly ball to center field that Roberto Caro dropped and allowed Castro to score 6-5. With the tying run at second in Frías, Brayan Buelvas grounded out to first to leave the Caimanes one win away from achieving their twelfth title in Colombian professional baseball.

The victory went to left-hander Ronald Ramírez, the loss to Jeffry Niño, while David Méndez saved his third game in the final.

The fifth game of the Playoff will be played this Thursday starting at 7:30 pm at the Édgar Rentería stadium.

Magellan caught their breath in Valencia

No sweep! With a brilliant start from left-hander César Jiménez, Navegantes del Magallanes managed this Thursday to keep Caribes de Anzoátegui at bay to win 4-2 in Valencia and add their first victory of the Grand Finals.

The series remains 2-1 in favor of the Caribes, but the possibility of a second consecutive sweep in the finals has died.

César Jiménez pitched five innings and a third of two runs, a couple of walks and four strikeouts to guide the Magallanes, who this time brought out their good pitching.

The offense backed him up early, taking a two-run lead in the first inning off solo homers by Cade Gotta and Pablo Sandoval.

Two innings later, the Kung-fu Panda extended the Magallanes lead to 4-0 with a single to right field.

The Caribes scored their only two runs in the sixth on a Balbino Fuenmayor single.

The last third of the game was a mastery in the art of relief pitching, which ,until now, had been absent. Wilking Rodríguez, Anthony Vizcaya and Bruce Rondón combined to hang up the last nine outs of the game without allowing Caribes even a single hit.

Sandoval led the Magallanes offense finishing 2-4 with three rbi.

Jiménez (1-0) was credited with the victory and left his ERA at 3.38, while the Mexican Edgar Torres (0-1) was charged with the loss and Bruce Rondon (1) credited the save.

Creoles Champions! Caguas achieves the 'back to back' by eliminating the Indios in the fifth game of the final

Mayaguez . The 20th championship of the Caguas in Puerto Rican winter baseball arrived.

Johneswhy Fargas hit the golden ball in the eighth inning to break a tie on the scoreboard and lead the Criollos de Caguas to their second straight title, after dramatically beating the Indios de Mayagüez 4-3 in game five on Thursday.

The Criollos, who dominated the series 4-1, will be the representatives of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Series that will begin next week in the Dominican Republic.

Caguas also outclassed the Indios in last season's final, sweeping them in four games.

It was another disappointing end to the season for the Indians as they posted their fourth straight runner-up finish and sixth in the past eight years. They haven't won a title since 2013-14.

Caguas, for its part, is the first franchise in the league to reach 20 titles. The Criollos impressed in the series by winning three of their four away games. The few Criollos fans celebrated the championship in the stands.

The Indians threatened to even the score in the last inning when Danny Ortiz doubled with two outs, but TJ Rivera grounded out to third base to make way for the celebration of the Creole players on the field. Ricardo Gómez saved his third game of the series.

Fargas was the hero of the night with two outs in the eighth inning off pitches from Indians star reliever Fernando Cruz.

After eliminating the first two batters, Cruz allowed a weak single to right-hander Jancarlos Cintrón and then reached the ninth batter, Roby Enríquez.

And with runners at second base and first base, Fargas hit a strong line drive down the left field line to drive in Cintrón with the lead run. On the play, Enriquez was thrown out at the plate to close out the inning.

Contrary to the night before, the Indians jumped ahead on the board by driving in two runs in the opening inning off pitches from right-hander Yordy Cabrera.

With Brett Rodriguez at first base, Chavez Young doubled to left to drive him home. Young then advanced to third on Emmanuel Rivera's infield groundout and scored on Danny Ortiz's sacrifice fly to get the crowd excited.

Caguas' reaction was not long in coming. In the third inning against left-hander Eric Stout, the visitors scored three runs to take the lead.

With the bases loaded, Jonathan Morales doubled driving in two runs to even the score. And immediately afterwards, David Vidal singled to left to bring Engel Beltré home and thus give the visitors a 3-2 lead.

Stout, who was the Pitcher of the Year in the regular phase, only completed 1.2 innings allowing four hits and three runs.

After the first inning, Cabrera tightened his arm and threw three straight scoreless innings until they tied the game in the fifth with two outs. With Jim Haley at second, ninth-hitter Jeremy Rivera hit a single to right to score the American.

A drama with a happy ending. The Caimanes sweated and suffered a big scare in the ninth inning, but defeated the Cowboys of Montería 4-3 on Thursday night at the Édgar Rentería stadium, in the fifth game of the finals of the Colombian Professional Baseball League, and they were crowned champions for the second time in a row and the twelfth time in their history.

The conclusion to the top of the last inning was full of suspense. When the Cowboys had scored a run and threatened to tie the game Taiwanese Tsung-Che Cheng starred in a spectacular double play against a ground ball hit by Viloria that extinguished the anguish. Although there were a few more minutes of drama, because the Cowboys asked for a review of the play. Finally, the video ratified what the umpire saw and initially decided.
