SO....
If the Indians win every remaining game they would finish with 91 wins.
If Detroit plays .500 ball for their remaining 18 games they would finish with 91 wins.
So there IS a chance!

I mean, the law of averages has to kick in at some point, doesn't it?

Tribe played today too. This time Chris Perez who can't pitch in ties allowed the grand slam in the 10th. Duncan hit another homer. Matt LaPorta back from from exile with a 2 run single (and 3 K). Grady Sizemore continues hs big boost to the team, now 0-15 with 7 K since his return. Tribe K's 15 times in 10 innings.

For those of you that have read Michael Lewis' Moneyball, there's a chapter in which he describes trading over-rated and over-paid players called "Selling The Closer". If there is ever an example of an over-rated player, it's Chris Perez. He should be included in any off season deal for a RH bat.
Pestano was better all year and should have no problem taking over.

Indians are going to have to get some hitting via trade (can't see them getting anything good via free agency) and bullpen arms is one area that they have an excess.
I'd have zero problem trading Chris Perez this winter.

I think like many of the moves made this summer we might be surprised by what the Indians do this off season. Two reasons for that. One is their window of opportunity is 2012 and 2013. Two is that I bet the majority of the purchase debt is behind the Dolans. If there is a popular and functional bat out there that would be willing to play in Cleveland they may pull the trigger to supplement all of their rookie contracts.

Perez took the loss and wasn’t too happy about the circumstances that led up to it, especially the walks.
“Very rarely you see major-league pitchers one through five have to struggle throwing strikes,” Perez said. “We’ll have our off-days here and there, but not our whole bullpen.”

I'd sure dangle Chris Perez for a nice trade, but I'd still take him back as an acceptable pen guy if nothing works out.
The Tigers pulling away certainly wasn't all on Chris Perez.

Oh, and Seagull of course I agree on Pestano. 2011 and Pestano has been the most fun I've had watching a Tribe pitcher since Tavares in the mid-90's.

Welcome to Coors: White was the winning pitcher for Colorado on Saturday despite giving up five homers at Coors Field in a 12-7 win over the Reds. White (2-1) has allowed 12 homers in 32 innings since the Indians sent him to the Rockies.
