Re: GameTime!™
6062I think with VMART we would have won the division. The Tigers have 2 impact bats and a real FOR starter. We have no impact bats and have developed a FOR starter. I think with Vmart our line up would have been totally different. I think Santana who has shown sig potential would have been much better out of the clean up position. For those of us who have complained about the dolan's cheapness over decades I think this 1 situation is the most clear case to support our argument.

6064Not clear what a personal attack has to do with the present argument in which the brain trust gave us a pop gun while the competition had several bazookas.

Re: GameTime!™
6066Look any objective knew months ago the Indians offense was not going to get the job done. Pitching has been very good. Young kids show promise. But with Sizemore, Brantley, Choo, Hafner all out with injuries and Santana and LaPorta needing to grow into impact hitters (if they will) we just couldn't stay in the hunt.
You all know my opinion. Do NOT exercise the options on Sizemore or Carmona and let Hafner go after next year or as soon as possible if you can trade him. Invest the money in core players Masterson, Choo, Jimenez, Perez, Cabrera and go get a really good hitter that will cost $$$. We are way over budget in terms of revenue in 2011 and have a stockpile of pitching now. Use the $$$ and young pitching to go hit a real hitter or two and we are in great shape for a few years...

6067Nobody was expecting the Indians to be contenders last winter and given that expectation I don't see why Martinez would have signed on.kenm wrote:Couldnt we have have signed Vmart as a FA last winter?
Re: GameTime!™
6068On a more positive note I wonder if Shelly Duncan has picked up a few tips from Jim Thome?.
It just seems odd that he has doubled his home run total since Thome has joined the team.

Re: GameTime!™
6069The Indians weren't in the market for a first baseman last winter because they still believed in LaPorta. They won't have those illusions this coming offseason, I assume.
The example of Victor Martinez is a good one though, because it shows what's typically available every winter if all you're looking for is a bat who can handle the bare minimum of first base duties.

Re: GameTime!™
6070Regarding DUncan, I heard Manning say the other day that the hitting coach saw him getting "sawed off/jammed" during one of his at bats and suggested a stance adjustment for him.
That was BEFORE Duncan's repeated 2 homer outings.

6071I believe in ten game winning streaks, and ten game losing streaks.
And the small of a woman's back.
Anything can still....mathematically....happen.
It's been a nice 2011 season.
Much nicer than anyone here expected.
The only real Baseball Fan direct comment I have is that I despise Jhonny Peralta more than ever before. He folded up his tent early and often as an Indian.
