J.R., I just remembered there is another regular stadium sound that might be disliked as much as that lone horn guy in Oakland.

The darned train horns in Seattle.

Not even close, in my mind. I've had to turn off the audio when I heard that stupid "toot-toot-toot" and the response, "Let's go A's!"

LOL.....NOW I know what you are talking about!

"Let's go Oakland!.....clap clap....clap clap clap....Let's go Oakland!....clap clap....clap clap clap.....Let's go Oakland!"

My favorite Oakland crowd routine is when each umpire is announced before the game.

Left Field Stands: "Oh No!"

Right Field Stands: "He's blind!"

I mentioned before that most of the guys Oakland lets in the stands with brass instruments are pretty good. They are usually just above the left field wall.

That plastic horn guy doing the "toot toot toot" to the "clap clap clap" is not always there.

I've not been to Safeco, but I did go to the old Kingdome in Seattle. I drove up from a gig in Portland, Oregon to see The Indians one summer weeknight in 1994.

Trivia, it was less than a month before the ceiling tiles started falling down onto the field and the crowd.

My two most vivid memories of that visit involved walking into and out of the stadium.

I may not have I parked in the optimum spot, but I felt as if I was walking through a railroad yard to get into the place.

And when I walked out after 10PM, I expected it to be dark. It wasn't.

Tangentially.....

Eric Wedge has brought in Aaron Laffey in Seattle to face Coco Crisp just now against Oakland.

and Laffey gets Crisp to ground into a double play.

I was surprised when I visited England way back in 1985. Our tour group went out walking after dinner, and it was light until about 11 PM!

I never really fully appreciated the latitude differential in darkness until that visit to Seattle. I had been to Alaska by that point of my life and knew all about the long summer days from first hand experience at that latitude difference.

I just wasn't expecting to see daylight after 10PM in Seattle in June.

And on a more Cleveland area relevant observation, I remember as a kid July 4th fireworks shows started when it was completely dark. Normally 9:30 to 9:45 ish as I recall.

In South Carolina it was always dark enough for the fireworks to begin at 9PM on July 4th.

"Oh no"
"He's blind!

Wow, much more polite than what I have heard at Fenway in the bleachers:

"Eat $#!+"
"F@c# you!"

repeat ad naseum

Actually I thought it was funny ... they were of course just chanting at each other, not at umps or players.

And am I the only one who remembers "Rick's Rejects" from the Municipal stadium bleachers c. 1980?

Grady hits a two run homer. Chipping away at the score. Only seven more runs to tie it
