Santana takes too many good pitches. I don't think I've ever seen a batter jump away from so many strikes over the inside corner of the plate.

Just what the doctor ordered after the Monday misery.
Got the series, distanced Chicago, moved within 1 1/2 games of 1st and now and on to Detroit with Mo.

Nice to see Fukudome showing some signs of coming out of his plate funk. Also am glad to go back and see he was still aggressive and had two more hits after his infield single off the pitcher's head.

It's official, only The Indians won tonight in the central. Noting that our last two wins drop the White Sox back below .500.

Detroit:
Friday = Tomlin 12-5 vs Scherzer 12-7
Saturday = Huff 1-1 vs Fister 4-13
Sunday = Jimenez 7-9 vs Porcello 11-8
Another pressure packed series to weather. I'm hoping to take 2 of 3 but 1 will be acceptible. With a little luck, a sweep is not out of the realm of possibility. Here's hoping that Santana and Choo bring their "A" games with. Some interesting matchups in this series. Nice stepping stone series to build on heading towards September. Gotta take advantage of the fact that we won't see Verlander in this series.

Bingo, 2 out of 3 has to be the goal, and it is doable.

Good game last night.
To respond to KenM post about LaPorta. If you record his at bats and play them back slowly one can notice that he sometimes does not follow the ball in with his head and eyes and swings hard at where he thinks it is going to be. Most good hitters follow the ball to the bat contact. La Porta has power and when he makes contact it can fly but somehow he has to train his following the ball to the contact point. Late movement makes him look pretty silly. I wonder if training with a machine that starts slow and picks up speed later would help.

So what did our "closer" do?

Kenm, you called them right: LaPorta can't hit, and follows with a bomb. Closer can't closer and he sets them down 1-2-3. Your pessimism was nicely rewarded.

Tomlin needs just 7 pitches to retire the Tigers in the 1st.

1-5 gb/fb ratio through 2. That's not a good sign...
I remember going to a reunion game against TB awhile ago -- Westbrook was pitching, and he similarly had a lot of fly balls.
I told Denver Winterhaven Cleveland Lou that we were in trouble.
We were. That's the game Coco botched a sac bunt. Don't remember the year....I was with Donna, and I think JR was there also.
Donna got us into the Loge for a bit!

Well he IS a known fly-ball pitcher ... all those HRs allowed ...
