After the first week, Yoenis Cespedes leads the A's in batting average at .273 (Reddick hitting .227, the rest of the team is hitting .200 or below and I thought the Indians offense was going bad. Even with the anemic averages, the A's sit on a 3-4 record.

Cespedes also leads the team in runs scores with 5, home runs with 3, rbi's with 7, and tied with 4 others with 1 stolen base.

Pretty decent start for a guy with no minor league experience.

The only negative is 11 strikeouts vs 3 walks.

...........Cespedes was hit by a pitch for the third time this season, but he said he doesn't believe Broxton tried to hit him in that situation.

"Everybody could see that he was wild a little bit," Cespedes said. "He tried to throw strikes."

Right-hander Brandon McCarthy said the A's pitchers will watch the situation closely and respond in kind if Cespedes keeps getting plunked...........

That is an amazing stat.

It's neat to note in retrospect that Jamie Moyer was released by three clubs within 18 months in the early 1990's. The Cardinals, The Rangers and The Cubs. He's pitched a whole bunch of baseball in the 20 years since.

Jeremy Guthrie had his second consecutive ineffective outing on Monday, giving up six runs on nine hits in seven innings. He walked two and struck out one batter.
Guthrie was hit hard Monday but needed to stay in the game to provide rest for the fatigued Rockies' bullpen. Through three starts, the most glaring stat on Guthrie is his miniscule 1.7 K/9IP ratio. For his career, Guthrie holds a 5.5 K/9IP. He no longer misses bats and that has to concern the Rockies.

I had a bad day yesterday. First it was Valentine. Then it was Guthrie. At least Salcedo and Harper took a little of the edge off.

It's still early in the season for both. Nothing that a couple of a nice winning streaks won't cure.

First of all, I never go into hiding on this forum especially from you

Secondly, it's much too early to praise or bitch. We kicked some Royals ass! Duhhhh! Isn't that what we're supposed to be doing? They are in our division. Now! If that was Texas..........

Thirdly! When I do bitch, 90% of the negative vibes are directed at the ownership and management teams and deservedly so. The other 10% might have been directed at LaPorta Actually, I thought I've controlled my emotions rather well the past couple of seasons ?!?!?

Finally! Camping/Kayaking/Fishing season trumps the Cleveland Indians these days. I do have a life after baseball. I found that out the past 10 years. The camping season started two weeks ago. My weekends are devoted to camping, kayaking, and fishing, not baseball. Sad to say after being a lifelong fan of 55+ years but true.

The offense has been better than I thought it would be to date.

On the other hand, the pitching has left a lot to be desired. Quite fortunate to have the record we possess. There was an opening here but I refrained from bitching. As previously posted, it's too early to be elated or disappointed. I usually come out of hybernation as we approach the all-star break

I'm not sad about being interested in other things. It's sad the way the organization has handled their business the past 10 years which has caused me to lose so much interest in the team.

The Royals have put together a very talented team. Unfortunately for them, they didn't/don't know how to take care of their pitching staffs over the past several seasons. They've always had very good offensive teams but have never been able to put a strong pitching staff together to support the offense.

I wasn't dissing the Royals. If the Indians are going to survive the season and stay in the race from start to finish, they have to take care of business in this division. Kansas City just happened to be the team of choice at this moment in time. If it were the Twins, I would have made the same remarks about them.

I will sum up your post. I come here to bitch. There is very little to bitch about so I did not post.
