Zimmer seems to have quite the talent for getting hit by pitches, two more yesterday to go along with 2 doubles. I suppose that means he crowds the plate so he can get full plate coverage and doesn't let the pitcher control the game. Or it could mean he sticks out a heavily padded elbow like my least favorite Indian Ryan Garko used to do.

306/444/500 and 3 steals in his first 10 games in AA.

Sam Hentges is No. 2 in the Arizona League with 39 strikeouts, recorded in only 27 2/3 innings. Also has walked 15.

[while finding those stats, I encountered a remarkable line for Brewers' pitcher Connor Baits: He's ahead of Hentges with 17 walks and has managed to walk that many in 5 innings. Also allowed 8 hits, and 25 runs only 20 earned, for an ERA of 36 and a WHIP of 5]

On the offensive leader board, Mejia has dropped to second in batting average and is also second in walks, which adds up to No. 1 in on base pct, and on out of sight in basestealing, he has 25, runner up has 13.

No one else rates in the AZL

Mejia walked, singled and stole second both times. That makes 27 steals in 26 games. Hitting 376, OBP 462.

3 singles by LuigiRod and his 24th steal. Frazier singled and doubled and caught stealing. NellieRod singled and Sac Fly for 2 more RBI to pad league lead.

for Akron, Mike Clevenger with an off-night: 3 2/3--4--3--2--4
Another Zero for Swisher, he's now 0-12 in AA. Looks ready for the majors.

3 hits for Jerry Sands; 2 each by Erik Gonzalez, James Ramsey, Tyler Naquin.

Tuesday games:

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.js ... d=20150728

Ramsay and Naquin both homered. With Murphy gone Ramsay might be getting a test run with the Indians. Not that he's really done much to deserve it.

Bradley with his 15th homer for Lake County. He's one behind Nellie for organizational leadership. Added a single and a walk and as usual a couple strikeouts

Player of the day: draftee Ka'ai Tom went a perfect 5 for 5 including a double, a triple 4 rbi and added in a walk. All that brings his average up to 257 and his OPS to 689.

mlb.com updated Top 30 prospect list for the Tribe:

http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=cle

They overdo it with this year's draftees who haven't yet had a chance to fail:

Aiken, #3, McKenzie #7, Hillman #8, Wakamatsu #17, Krieger #20, Mathias #21.

Zimmer is of course 1, Frazier 2, Aiken 3, Naquin hasn't impressed me this year but he's still 4, Sheffield 5, Bradley 6, 7&8 see above; Anderson 9; Erik Gonzalez 10 despite no offense in AAA.

11-20: F Mejia [GMejia not on the list, neither is Greg Allen]; Ramsay, Papi, Plutko, Clevinger, Morimando, Wakamatsu, Lugo, Brady, Krieger

21-30: Mathias, finally Luigi Rodriguez, at long last Nellie Rodriguez, Claudio Bautista, Aguilar, Brown, Armstrong, YDiaz, Chang [he hasn't dropped that far imo], W. Castro

[January 2015] The Rockies announced that they have designated left-hander Jayson Aquino for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for newly acquired right-hander David Hale.

Aquino, who turned 22 in November, split the 2014 campaign between Class-A Advanced and Double-A, working to a 5.13 ERA with 7.0 K/9 and 3.2 BB/9 in 107 innings (18 starts). Aquino has three times ranked among Colorado’s top 30 prospects, per Baseball America, topping out at No. 9 following the 2012 season. However, he slipped to 28th last offseason, with BA noting that while he possesses a plus changeup and an average slider, his fastball command is poor, and he doesn’t use the pitch enough. BA’s report also indicated that Aquino is too emotional on the mound, often showing that emotion when disagreeing with umpires’ calls.

[On the way down, apparently.]

All Gabriel Mejia did last night was rap out four singles, draw a walk and steal two bases. His average is now an even .400.

The doubt about him is the almost total lack of power. He has four doubles and one triple in about 120 plate appearances. But at least at his current level he's as good a leadoff hitter as you could imagine. He'll need to develop some line drive gap power as he develops.
