John Sickels' midseason report lists Zimmer at No. 14 and Frazier at No. 70 stating "Clint Frazier, (preseason 74): 2015 is virtually identical to 2014 so can’t really ding him, can’t promote him too much either. Making incremental but measurable improvements with contact, defense."

Mark Mathias singled, tripled, homered, walked. 263/333/400. In his last 10 games: 405/457/667 The other 2015 drafted 2B is out probably until next spring. Mathias may be following in the footsteps of various past great-hitting Mahoning Valley second basemen like Scott Pratt and Cord Phelps who went on to fizzle out as they ascended the farm system. Or maybe not.

I forgot to include the Arizona highlights, other than Mejia's 4 hits, one was his 2nd double. He is not a power hitter. He'll need some xb hitting ability or his rookie league steals won't necessarily get him far. His slash line: 395/462/444.

SS Alexis Pantoja had 3 hits including his 1st triple and 3 rbi. HIs line: 311/342/405. When drafted he was lauded for his defense.

Clint Frazier had a little bit of fun on Twitter a few hours before Thursday’s contest at City Stadium. The Lynchburg center fielder made a plea to the Mother Nature Network for the wind not to blow in as strong as it had been in the recent days. The reason behind the request was that one of his fly balls during Wednesday night’s doubleheader was knocked down by the wind, one that he thought he hit well enough for a home run.

The account replied to Frazier’s request with one word: “Done!”

Mother Nature actually cooperated. Frazier crushed a home run as part of a 3-for-4 night. But the lack of wind played into Salem’s favor in the final innings.

The Red Sox scored five unanswered runs, including four in the final three innings, and claimed a 5-3 victory before 2,764 spectators.

“It’s a bitter taste in your mouth when you lose a game like that,” Frazier said. “It’s baseball. We have, I don’t know how many more games, 60-plus games left, so we can come out here and hopefully do that to another team.”

The Red Sox (48-43, 10-11) scored twice in the eighth inning against J.P. Feyereisen to take a 4-3 lead and spoil Hillcats starter Michael Peoples’ outing.

Salem had four consecutive batters reach against Feyereisen, the last two being back-to-back RBI singles from Mario Martinez and Jordan Weems. Martinez extended his hitting streak to 11 games and Weems’ single scored Kevin Heller for the go-ahead run.

“He left some balls up and they put some good swings on it,” Hillcats manager Mark Budzinski said of Feyereisen in the eighth.

The Hillcats (42-48, 9-11) still had a chance to tie the game in the eighth and ninth innings, but Chandler Shepherd worked around two baserunners in the ninth to pick up his second save.

Peoples delivered his fifth straight quality start and did not factor into the decision for the third time. He allowed two runs on seven hits over 6 2/3 innings, struck out seven and threw 65 of his 94 pitches for strikes.

The Red Sox forced Peoples into a trio of high-pitch innings by fouling off several two-strike pitches. Peoples only walked one and struck out more than four batters for the third time this season.

“It was one of those things where in my mind, I wanted to get early contact. When I went on 0-2 and made a good pitch, they were swinging through it,” Peoples said. “My changeup was working well. We’ll take the outs when we can get the outs. At the same time, we didn’t stray too far from the game. It was just one of those days where they were just missing it and maybe the sinker was moving a little bit more than it normally does.”

The Hillcats took an early 1-0 lead on Dorssys Paulino’s two-out RBI single in the second inning that scored LeVon Washington. Frazier followed in the third inning with a two-out, two-run homer to left field that gave the ‘Cats a 3-0 lead.

It was Frazier’s ninth home run of the season and first since June 26. He had Mother Nature in mind when he hit it out of City Stadium.

“I’m about to tweet them, ‘Thank you,’ and just tweet the box score to them and say thanks and we’ll be in touch with you,” Frazier said.

EXTRA BASES: Right-handed relief pitcher Trevor Frank, who had been on the disabled list for the entire season, was activated before Thursday’s contest and assigned to Lynchburg. Frank led the Indians organization last season with 18 saves, all coming at Class A Lake County. … To make room for Frank on the roster, Clayton Cook was released by the Indians. Cook was 3-2 with a 5.25 ERA in 16 appearances this season with the Hillcats. The right-hander made the transition to the bullpen after missing almost two full seasons (2012 and ‘13) following surgery for a torn labrum in his right shoulder, and was the Indians’ ninth-round pick in the 2009 draft. “I was a starter my whole career and then after the arm injury, they put me in the bullpen. I’ve always wanted to start,” Cook said earlier this season.
