Acta is putting a lot onto the young shoulders of Santana. Previous managers have been much more cautious about pushing a young player into a position where they had to take on a lot of responsibility. And maybe I can agree with being cautious when it comes to young pitchers, since their psyche is so important to their ability to perform.
But in the case of Santana, I can only hope that Acta has a good take on what Carlos can handle. Acta does spend much more time with Santana on a daily basis than just about anyone else, and I would hope Acta has the best feel for Santana's confidence level.
In my job I have trained a lot of guys. I most definitely have a "feel" for who to push, and who should be held back and brought along more slowly. And I strongly believe in pushing those who can handle it. I assume this is the situation between Santana and Acta.

Acta has refused to move the young catcher.

That is too funny! Ozzie Guillen would be proud.
Good for Manny.

Howdy Loufla.
Of course the Wall Street Journal was where you read it. There is no finer newspaper in America.
19-8.
Not to quibble, but why is Carlos Santana still batting cleanup?
But I'm with MtFan. Manny Acta is a genius and if he says cleanup, it is cleanup

We've all heard the adage about don't make an assessment until after the first 40 games.
When things aren't going so well...I wait for 40 games.
Now I'm thinking there is something going on here with the Tribe and we haven't played 30.
Is that just being a crazed/hopeful fan??

Is that trade of Victor to Boston looking sweet right now or what?
And Hagadone is in the pipeline and getting glowing reviews.

The CC trade to Milwaukee isn't looking too bad these days either. LaPorta and Brantley both continue to get better...

Why is Santana hitting cleanup? Simple, because he's doing everything right. Despite a low BA he maintains a good approach at the plate drawing walks and see a ton of pitches (4.44 per pa) while providing power (on pace to hit 30 dingers) and run production (hitting .304 with RISP). The power is there, the plate discipline is there. The hits will happen, just be patient...

Acta a genius? Nah. But he is someone who's been around ML ball players for awhile. Hopefully he has some insights into how to handle a young star, but who knows?
Some guys you handle with TLC, others you throw into the fire and they only get better. Santana is learning a lot with everything on his plate and if he can make it through a few more months without any huge problems he might just be a better player for the experience. If he self-destructs then I guess that would be on Acta too.

Little behind the scenes info from Chris Perez after victories. The team waits until every player gets into the clubhouse (including those doing interviews) and the star of the game leads a victory cheer or chant by the entire team.
