I think we have enough good pitching that we'll be able to trade some of it for some hitting, maybe a useful veteran down the stretch. Which sounds like McAllister for Austin Kearns again, except we have Kearns ourselves already.

homers for Carrera and Phelps, 3 run double by Chisenhall and surprisingly decent pitching for 4 innings by Kluber and Clippers hold a 6-1 lead

Kluber can't hold the 6-0 lead and the Clippers are shllacked 13-7. 6 off Kluber in 5 innings. 2 more off Eric Berger in 1 1/3, the first runs of the year (4) off Carlton Smith as he retires 2 batters.

Phelps, Carrera and Buck homered.

Matt Packer's miserable work is more suprrising than Kluber's after his breakout in 2010, he's broken down in 2011. Matt lasted 6 innings Tuesday, 5 earned runs, 7 total, 8 hits, 2 K.

Chun Chen with a pair of hits, is at 272. Jordan Henry leading off in style singles once, walks 3 times. Still no power for Henry, 2 doubles and a triple are it for the season.

Kyle Blair was fine through three, allows 3 runs retiring the next 3, finishes with the loss on a yield of 7 hits and 3 runs in 4 innings, fans 4, walks 1.

"The other Alex" behind the plate, Monsalve, keeps hitting: 2 singles, a double, he passes 300. Levon Washington with his first Lake County double.

He needs to keep getting his work at any level to build his strength and confidence. This was his first 2 inning outing and he's still only pitching every 5 days. So far, so good. But has anyone read about the speed of his fastball? The quality of his breaking pitches?

I couldn't get on to the forum yesterday so I ddin't get to post a long list of minor league losses on Wednesday, including 2 7-inning shutouts of the talent-less Kinston Indians. They are living up to their preseason ratings: only position player in Kinston listed on BA's top 30 prospects was Tyler Holt, about 28th, who's hitting and running pretty well. Greenwell is hitting a weak 300. Abner Abreu's HR swing still hasn't returned. Roberto Perez can't come close to the Mendoza line. No one else was even a potential prospect.

For the present, I'm more interested in Pomeranz' than Miller. Drew had a fairish start at Kinston last night; didn't get through the 5th, allowed 3 runs, 6 hits, but fanned 6.

Lonnie's 3rd homer, JRod's 1st not nearly enough to offset Eric Berger's 6 runs allowed in less than 2 innings.

1 bad inning does in Joe Gardner and the Aeros, 6-2 losers, 5 runs score in the 3rd. Jared Goedert's 2nd error makes 4 run unearned, but the 4 walks and 2 hits allowed by Gardner in 2 2/3 didn't help. Chen Lee fans 3 in 2 innings, allows a hit on 2 runs. Ryan Langwell and Kyle Landis scoreless relief. Goedert homers.
