Terry Francona on Jason Giambi.
Francona said this to Michael Kay from the YES network before the game.
AND, Francona made national headlines for his story of getting lost on the walk from his downtown Cleveland apartment to the The Cleveland Indians Ball Park for Opening game.
He gets lost, and we get outscored like a zillion to nothing in the first two home games.
I tell ya, it's the curse and weight of Mark Shapiro, a guy that only
Rusty around these parts has loved.
I have the San Francisco Giants up on live TV now. Shapiro and Dolan are complete MUCK UPS while competing in the same space as The Giants for Shapiro's near quarter century on The Tribe payroll.

I suppose McAllister will move up to starting Wednesday which will be on regular rest. For Thursday unavailable options are Masterson, Jiminez, Carrasco and Myers. Bauer cannot be recalled since he has not been down long enough. Kazmir's stint on the DL hasn't expired. That leaves DiceK, who would have to be added to the 40-man roster and we'd have to dump someone else to make room for probably one start, which doesn't seem worth it; or Kluber, who seems like the obvious albeit unimpressive option. I'm going way out on a limb, but I'm going to guess Kluber is no worse Thursday than Jiminez or Carrasco or Myers on Monday and Tuesday.
Some day they'll be able to get the roster in the order originally intended and they'll be able to activate Giambi and recall Hagadone who are both ready but backed up beyond multiple catchers and temporary starters.

Option out Carrasco? By Sunday Kazmir will be eligible to return, but will he is healthy?
Return Santos to Columbus?, but only if Santana is ready to play in an emergency.
Demote Cody Allen? but then the bullpen is short and the demand on their services will remain high.
Discover that Bret Myers has an injury? Probably the best option if they can come up with something other than "dangerously hanging curveball".

So I guess we'll deal with the Sunday starter on Sunday,
Kluber will be our 7th different starting pitcher in the first 9 games of the season. Good (and/or lucky) teams will go half a season before that reach 7 starters.

Unusual to be scheduled to play so many days in a row to open the season.

Yes, this year there didn't seem to be much--if any--of the "opening day followed by an off day in case the opening-day weather is crap" kind of scheduling.

From Matt Underwood:
Indians have made several roster moves today.
Recalled LHP NICK HAGADONE from AAA Columbus
Activated INF/DH JASON GIAMBI from the 15-day Disabled List
Placed RHP MATT ALBERS on the Paternity List
Optioned RHP COREY KLUBER to Columbus

Hey, sometimes they used to have DHs on Memorial Day and Labor Day, and those were Mondays.
