Tribe fans: John Patsy (Tito) Francona was 5th in '59 MVP race hitting .363 for the Indians
Rusty adds - Patsy is such a great name. Lots of guys named Patsy in my extended business "family".

They didn't feel that he stuck up for them enough on blown or controversial calls, and they didn't feel he associated with them enough in the clubhouse.
Here's my response:
I think we have a lot of woosie ballplayers on this team if this is the case.
NICE!
Tank the season because of a few blown calls and a manager who won't hold hands and man hug.
The owner is cheap, but still, these players make a lot of money. I wish I made as much. If I had to babysit a bunch of ballplayers making that kind of money, I say good riddance to all of them.
These players not only cheated themselves but they cheated us, the fans.

But general manager Chris Antonetti, who dismissed Acta three years after bringing him onboard, told a room full of reporters that this particular story is not yet complete. Antonetti will perform an extensive, time-consuming search -- though Alomar is, of course, a top candidate -- to find the right man for the job.
"It's exhausting," Antonetti said of finding a manager. "It takes a lot of time and effort and a lot of phone calls and trying to understand and get enough perspectives on individuals from a variety of areas to really have an informed opinion of someone."

Geez, if that does not capture Antonetti as a mindless and aimless paycheck collecting Baseball Wuss, then nothing other than Mark Shapiro hiring him (and de facto Acta) does.

That same "exhausting" research produced Manny Acta.

Yes, and depending on whether it's one of our fire sale seasons or not, probably a good many minor league teams in other organizations.
Francona would be an obvious choice for us if he's really interested in the job, though the last time we hired an ex-Red Sox manager, it didn't work out so well.
The Tribe has had a few managers who have won titles after first managing here, but I don't think we've ever hired anyone who has won a World Series already.
Charlie, are there any stats or documents or whatever to document our GM...or President.....make trips to the minor league team games?
I'm only asking since I was asked to clock GM's of other teams on travel to road games with regard to Antonetti.
First, I'll point out that Akron is within a less than hour drive of Cleveland, as minor league games go with regard to MLB.
Second, I'll point out that no response is necessary as I firmly believe this organization will be strangled, thwarted and sidetracked as long as Mark Shapiro and his "man boy" Chris Antonetti are lingering on the Dolan payrolll.
Maybe Dolan does indeed not know jack about who to hire to run his team, but I'll offer that a guy off the street in front of a homeless shelter would surpass Shapiro/Antonetti.

I read somewhere that Leyland's contract is up after this season. I can't imagine why the Tigers would not want him back, but I also recall that the last time Leyland was available, I wanted the Indians to dump their manager at the time and hire Leyland instead. (I don't remember who the manager at the time was.)

I don't know how common it is for a GM to travel with the major league team, but then I don't know exactly what it is they do as part of a "normal" workday. I'm thinking with the minor league seasons finished, this is probably one of the slowest times of the year for them, although with the Indians possibly doing a managerial search (my guess is they already know what they want to do) that's not probably not the case here.

[Except the few who fondly remember Sarbaugh as a remember of the replacement Indians about 10 seasons back in Spring Training.] That sounds like a perfect fit choice for Markandchris.
I've heard in the past that Sarbaugh's status as an ex-scab might very well be a disqualifier--members of the Players Association would feel that strongly about it. Not sure if anyone else in his position has ever become a major league manager or not. His record is very good, though.
When you consider those admitted approximations and when you note the fact that none of the eight men who started three or more games for the Indians this season has an ERA below 5.00, you see that the Tribe has issues that go well beyond the managerial slot.
McAllister is below 5.00 (with the help of a whole lot of unearned runs, of course). Plus, Huff had his third start last night and is well below 5. Yippee.

Indians have a history of stiffing their minor league managers unless they spout the Shapiro mantra like Wedge.
Brian Graham got shuffled after managing Buffalo to mutiple playoffs.
Tory Lavullo didn't even get a sniff after managing at Columbus.
Sarbaugh won't either.
Should Santos become the anointed one, fans will be calling for his head next July.

I think most fans realize that the manager can only do so much. I've heard much more criticism of ownership and front office lately.

Have you not been reading the baseball expert Rusty's posts? He thinks Dolan is good. Acta is bad.
