Manwhile Bauer is making his case for opening day, although I assume it goes to Corey in any case. Trevor has faced 9 hitters, only 2 of whom have not struck out.

We lack a 5th starter on this team. The 5 we use are all 1st 2nd or at worst 3rd starter quality.

Kipnis is playing today.
cleanup hitter for the Padres is Francisco Mejia catching and hit 400 with 3 homers and 11 RBI. I haven't been paying daily attention but I don't think he's been playing anywhere else in the field besides behind the plate. if he can succeed defensively he'll be quite a star

I'm in spring training too. That's why I posted some gametime updates in the Articles file. To summarize Bauer has allowed 2 homers, 3 runs total and the Indians have done nothing at bat in 3 innings. Trevor has also fanned 6. Starters could set another season K record in 2019

8 K now for Trevor in 4 innings.

Sources tell Ken Rosenthal and Dennis Lin of The Athletic that the Indians and Padres continue to discuss a trade for a starting pitcher.
Rosenthal tweets that the focus is on Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer. He also reports that the asking price has dropped, but that Cleveland's asking price is "still beyond the comfort level" for the Padres at this point. The trade is also not apparently close, and unlikely to happen before Opening Day. Still, it's interesting to hear that San Diego is still open to more additions. Adding a Bauer or Kluber to the rotation could go a long way in bumping up the rebuild, and there's plenty in the system to get it done.

Guys the Padres have a ridiculous amount of highly touted young outfielders bunched up and 3 of them already played in the bigs last year. Made worse by Machado now bumping Wil Myers to the outfield! Myers is overpaid but they do have to use him - so the young guys are screwed....
This matchup seems so obvious.
