What is Carrerra's status as a prospect?

Didn't make the grade on BA's Top 30 list for the Tribe this year, but he was No. 15 for the Mariners in 2010. A 5-10 179 lb 23 year old LH hitter. Last year they said:

Won the Southern League batting and OBP titles in 2009, his OBP ranked 3rd in the minors. Excels as a defensive OF because of his first step quickness and proper angles to the ball. He doesn't throw well, bu the improved his release time and accuracy in 09. An above-avg runner, is adept a bunting stretching singles inot doubles and stealing bases late in games. He can outlast pitchers for walks by fouling off quality offerings He offers little power and none against LH pitchers against whom he still looks uncomfortable. He also doesn't read lefties well on SB attempts. He profiles as a valuable reserve.

Then he debuted in AAA in 2010 at age 22 and didn't hit too well especially for Mariners before the trade but was having a good start this April.

2010 Tacoma 268 339 OBP 315 SLG 654 OPS 9 SB 5 CS
10 Columbus 385 337 OBP 385 SLG 722 OPS 11 SB 3 CS
11 Columbus 351 455 OBP 459 SLG 914 OPS 5 SB 1 CS

Columbus a 6-2 winner behind minor league vets Jared Head, 2 HRs and 4 BI; Carlin 3 hits including a homer. David Huff 5 innings, 2 unearned runs on only 1 hit, but walks 4. Shutout relief by Putnam 2 IP and one inning each by Herrmann and Judy.

Aeros loss 5-4 on Reading 9th inning run off Ryan Langwell. Eric Berger a replacement starter (for whom?) has a lot of 3's in his line: innings, hits, runs, strikeouts. Paulo Espino returns to Akron and goes 4 1 run 1 hit innings.

At bat, John Drennen with his 2nd homer and 2 walks. He had a pretty good 2010 OPS 789 and a better 2011 start: 310-459-586-1045.

Jordan Henry singles, walks twice, steals his 4th 333-400-389-789

Karexon Sanchez now 0-22 with 11 K

Kinston drops to 2-7 in a 9-0 pasting. Soto 3 2/3 4 runs, 2 earned on 6 hits and 4 walks. Joey Mahalic 5 hits and 5 runs in 3 1/3. The offense consisted of 2 hits by Abraham and 1 by Roberto Perez. No talent means on wins. Except when Pomeranz is on the mound

Alex Lavisky with his 2nd homer, and 2 RBI; Troy Cannon (23 year old 2B from U Va) also with his second homer. And Alex Monsalve's 2 hits raise avegare to 300.

On the hill Michael Goodnight tagged for a pair of homers; Overall line is OK: 2 earned runs in 5 innings. Nick Bartolone helps out with his typical disaster in the field, 2 more errors lift him to 7. Tony Wolters, you're needed in Eastlake, Ohio.

BA's noted lines of the day:

CLE LoA Lavisky, Alex C 4 2 2 2 .214 HR (2)
CLE AA Lee, Chen 1 1 0 0 0 0 3.86
CLE AA Packer, Matt 5 5 5 3 0 2 5.91 L (0-1)
CLE AAA Judy, Josh 1 1 0 0 1 2 3.38
CLE AAA Putnam, Zach 2 0 0 0 1 1 1.23 W (1-0)

I missed the Matt Packer game, maybe a DH I skipped one of the games?

Here's the box for the Matt Packer start. Nothing good in it.

Carrerra looks like he profiles somewhere between Willy Taveras and Michael Brantley.

Willie had a real career despite his miserable OPS so if Carrerra's even equal to Taveras he should find a big league home in CF somewhere, more likely in the NL. He might not steal as often, but he seems to be able to draw some walks, which Taveras rarely did. [136 walks in 670 big league games, that's a bit better than one walk a week]

OPS over 800:

Lake County: Smit 1270, Cannon 1077, Gallas 953, Urshela 947, Monsalve 804

Kinston: Abraham 149, Greenwell 822

Akron: Drennen 1045, Webb 819

Columbus: Head 1293, Carlin 1043, Phelps 1026, Carrera 914, Valbuena 849

The only two of those who rate on the Top 30 prospects are Phelps and Urshela.

Blue Jays Acquire Yohan Pino
By Tim Dierkes [April 18, 2011 at 8:40am CST]

The Blue Jays acquired righty Yohan Pino from the Indians for cash considerations, according to the Tribe's Twitter page.

Pino, 27, posted a 5.75 ERA, 7.0 K/9, 2.9 BB/9, and 1.5 HR/9 in 26 Triple-A starts last year, but was working out of the bullpen in Double-A this year. He'd joined the organization in August of '09 as the player to be named later in the Carl Pavano deal with the Twins. Pino last cracked a Baseball America handbook four years ago, when his command was said to rank among the best in the Twins' organization.

Kelvin de la Cruz and Nick Hagadone both continue solid, as Aeros win 4-3. Kelvin pitches 5 innings, 2 runs on 6 hits, fans 9, walks 1. Nick runs his scoreless, and walkless, streak to 8 2/3. Last night 2 2/3 innings, 3 hits, 4 K. Chen doubles.

Although he's still striking out too much (16/2 K/BB for the season) Alex Lavisky is hitting with power and in the clutch. 2 hits and 2 rbi last night; for his last 6 games his line is:

28-4-9-10 with a double and 10 RBI.

Two hits also by Monsalve, Aguillar. But Captains lost 7-5.

Corey Kluber leads a trio of lousy pitchers to a 13-5 Clipper loss. If Kluber ever has to be added to the Tribe rotation, we're in real trouble. He's blasted for 6 runs in 4 2/3. Next: Joe Martinez 3 in 2 1/3. Next: Jess Todd 3 in 1. Valiant mopup work by Carlton Smith, with a shutout inning; he, of all people, has not been scored on yet this season.

Lonnie Chisenhall walks twice, hitless, he's batting 200. Kipnis with a hit and walk, is 286
