Bieber had another outstanding outing in Columbus today. 8 shutout innings. So if Plutko falters he will have a talented youngster breathing down his neck.

In the age of instant analytics, the book has just started on Plutko. Every pitch he delivers as a Major Leaguer, will be logged, analyzed and dissected.

First appearances by pitchers are usually good outings because there's no info on him yet.

Don't throw dirt on Tomlin just yet.

I am no fan of Tomlin's stuff but even I would not disagree with Seagull. Dude is tough as hell. It is just a shame he didn't have better stuff to go with his, uh, testicular fortitude.

But still --

Shane Bieber this year --

(AA) - 31(IP) 26H 6R 4ER 1BB 30SO 1.16 ERA

Today - 8(IP) 3H 0R 0ER 0BB 8SO

(AAA) - 27.1(IP) 17H 4R 4ER 2BB 24SO 1.32 ERA

I think Tomlin just might play well in the bullpen actually.

One bad pitch is how the Cookie crumbles.

Yeah, our rotation is amazing. But watching this Houston rotation is not filling me with confidence - they are arguably even better.

We didn't even see Cole and Verlander. That's a good looking team!

Will Tomlin's slow stuff play up better in the pen than as a starter? Congrats to Plutko but I agree that he'll have Bieber breathing down his neck.

Maybe Tomlin can be the new Shaw?

Seems unlikely; Tomlin is a bulldog but without the fastball that Shaw relies on. His tendency to surrender homeruns doesn't make him the kind of guy who want to hold a narrow lead. Btu he's exceeded my expectations most of his career, so maybe he'll do so again.

Chisenhall is playing in Columbus tonight. Hit a double in his first at bat.
