I don't know but I think I would go out on the limb and sacrifice LaPorta for Thome if Jimmy sticks around for another year or two. Maybe a Marson. Let's face it. The Twins are smart. They won't get fleeced. We'll have to surrender someone with decent prospects of making the big leagues.

LaPorta hasn't been putting up any eye-popping numbers.

Thome Accepts Deal To Indians
By Zach Links [August 25 at 8:03pm CST]
The recently waived Jim Thome has accepted a deal to the Indians, according to Buster Olney of ESPN.com (via Twitter). It's not yet known what the Twins will receive in return or if the specifics of the trade have been hammered out.

The veteran, who turns 41 in two days, had the right to reject any deal as he holds a no-trade clause. Reportedly, Thome's preference was to return to Philadelphia where he played from 2003 through 2005.

The Indians are not giving up Marson or LaPorta for Thome. The Twins will want very little for Thome.

I don't expect Jimmy to be the life support system of this team but I do expect some meaningful contributions. The life support should be the responsibilities of Jimenez, Choo, Santana, Masterson, Carmona, and Fukudome.

Well! I'm gaining more respect from ownership and the management team. Too bad they had to wait about 10 years to be pro-active.

Hmmm, do I detect a dead horse? Or ten? One for each year?

:?:

joez - if you hadn't noticed, there's a new GM this year. Give him some credit, and put the past (Shapiro) behind you.

So! How big is the game on Friday night and the subsequent series with KC??

Paulino vs Jimenez in Game 1.

Duffy vs Carmona in Game 2.

Chen vs Masterson in Game 3.

The Tigers continue their road trip in the Twin Cities.

We have to love those pitching matchups.

I'll be bummed if we don't sweep this series.

Indians acquired DH Jim Thome from the Twins for a player to be named later.
The Indians won a waiver claim for the veteran slugger Thursday and had a deal struck with Minnesota within a couple hours. Thome turns 41 years old later this month and can't play every day, but he's a powerful presence when in the lineup and should give the second-place Tribe a nice late-season spark. He had 12 home runs and 40 RBI in 206 at-bats this year for the Twins.

By MLB rules a "player to be named later" can't be on the same level.....can't be a Major League player.

I don't know whether that means 25 or 40 man roster.

Sea, it was never going to be anyone that mattered. Why are you worried about 25 or 40 man roster ?
