I thought about opening a whole 'nother discussion for this but figured it's what Idle Chatter is for.

So anyway, an off day today for the Tribe. In spite of the fact that they are pretty sucky right now, if there was a game on I'd be listening or maybe even watching. Instead, I eat too much and read about parts of MLB goings-on that I wouldn't bother with otherwise.

In the off-season, no big deal, I get used to there being no games, but during the season, even one like this, an off day feels a bit empty.

So. What do YOU do to make it through an off day? Tonight I had a lot of laughs looking over the results of a google search on "bud selig douchenozzle." Wow, some people are really angry.

VT'er: I have the baseball package on my cable, so there are always MLB games to watch. Right now, I'm watching the Philly-Mets game, largely b/c Cliff Lee is on my fantasy team. I'm glad to see he is doing very well. I'm also checking the Rays-Red Sox game periodically.

Ordinarily, I'd be doing what JR is doing. I did not order the MLB package with Comcast and I did not sign up for the MLB.TV package either. I took the cheaper route and just follow the gamecasts.

With the offseason approaching, I entertain myself with winterball where I can watch most of the games for free. Basically, I have baseball all year long. I enjoy watching and reading about our guys trying to improve their skills and how their rehabs during live game situations are progressing.

Off days in regular season in September are OK. I hate our off days in April when momentum and fandom is just getting going.

In the long baseball off season, aside from the GM December meetings, I focus on the stories of College Football and the teams I strongly care about, and also the teams I give a notice.

Early, in October, I may decide to grab a bandwagon of a MLB team or two somewhere in the post season. Nothing serious, as none will be The Cleveland Indians.

I'll also pay attention to The Breeders Cup of thoroughbred horse racing in the off season. As luck would have it, I'm on the wrong coast this year to easily go pay a personal visit on Horse All Star Game Day in early November.

After the Breeders Cup, I will sort through a myriad of two year olds for the next Kentucky Derby winner. Not for money, but for Love of the Sport.

I'll count down the days to "Pitchers and Catchers report."

I'll also count down the days to the Daytona 500, held just after Spring Training report days.

Usually I build lots of nice evening fires in the fireplace in the baseball off season, but now in Southwest Florida we have no fireplace, so perhaps I'll have a beach oyster roast or two, three, or four...or something.

I may hang Christmas lights in a palm tree.

I annually look to put down some fun lettuce on The Super Bowl mid off season, but now not having an Asian chick bookie in San Francisco.... or an easy trip to Reno.....I guess I'll have to use some frequent flier miles for a Nevada trip.....or something.

I have four tickets to The Orange Bowl on January 1st, and hope some teams I or my loved one's care for happen to be there. I have an inside track to National Championship tickets six days later, and it would be awesome if those fell nicely into place.

I'll spend much time with my wife, and will watch old movies and cuddle, perhaps with our soon to be 16 year old dog still watching over us.

And I'll be counting down the days to Opening Day of 2013 Cleveland Indians Baseball.

And I bet I will type "Mark Shapiro" somewhere between the last pitch of 2012 Game #162, and that 2013 Opening Day first pitch against the Yankees.

I was quickly introduced to the RC Cola and moon pie thing immediately upon entry to first residence in South Carolina over 30 years ago.

I let my new Southern acquaintances know I had consumed RC Cola in Northeastern Ohio, and had one or two moon pie's in Ohio also, though I never really found them to be something I craved.

I did explain to Southerner's in 1980 that "Domino's" truly did not have great pizza.... if one had had pizza from Northeastern Ohio.....or by most any culinary definition. Unfortunately, Domino's had the best pizza product going when I first arrived in central South Carolina.

But when South Carolinians introduced me to mustard based BBQ, the "real" difference between "grilling" and "BBQ", and to fresh shucked oysters and shrimp and grits, and collard and mustard greens....... I was hooked on Southern Cuisine.

When Clemson won a National Championship, and George Rogers won a Heisman Trophy....both in my first months in South Carolina, I had stepping stones to an appreciation of Southern Football.

To bring this back to baseball, The South Carolina Gamecocks have had a great last three seasons.

If The Cleveland Indians win a World Series, most that I have talked about in the past two posts will have been trumped.

I posted elsewhere about spontaneously seeing "Trouble with The Curve" this evening.

During the movie I whispered to my wife that the eventual conclusions were "telegraphed" or "tipped" early on.

Fans of watching pitchers who might telegraph pitches might appreciate "the stretch" in the telegraphs of the movie.

My wife is sharp, but she missed the "peanut boy" significance as it happened.

Later she gave me kudos for catching it real time and sharing.

One of my fave baseball movies of all time that had minimal press was "For Love of The Game."

It was a good baseball chick flick to take a girl to as it was a Love Story set against the backdrop of baseball.

Baseball was also a backdrop for the major messages of "Trouble With the Curve."
