Update: Anibal Sanchez loses no-hit bid against Twins

Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez has no-hit the Twins through seven innings tonight in Detroit. The only base runners he has allowed came on walks to Jamey Carroll and Chris Parmelee, and he has retired each of the last 17 batters he has faced. Parmelee, Eduardo Escobar, and Aaron Hicks are slated to face Sanchez when he heads back out for the eighth inning. His first pitch of the inning will be his 100th of the night.

We’ll keep you posted as Sanchez attempts to capture the no-no.

This would mark Sanchez’s second incredible start of the season. He struck out 17 Braves over eight innings against the Braves on April 28. It would be the second no-hitter of his career, as he previously accomplished the feat on September 6, 2006 against the Diamondbacks.

Update (9:30 PM) — Sanchez has kept the Twins hitless through eight. His consecutive batters retired streak ended at 18 with a one-out walk to Escobar in the eighth. He’ll enter the ninth inning having thrown 114 pitches and will face Carroll, Joe Mauer, and Josh Willingham.

Update #2 (9:40 PM) — Sanchez lost his no-hit bid with one out in the ninth, as Joe Mauer laced a single up the middle.

Update #3 (9:45 PM) — Sanchez finished the game shut-out, a 130-pitch effort. His final line: 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 12 K.

I was watching the Indian game when Manning mentioned that Jeanmar Gomez was shutting out the Tigers on 3 hits in 7 innings tonight. I switched games but too late. Wilson was on in relief to start the 8th. Gomez has been pretty impressive for the Pirates this season. Prior to this evening's game, he was 2-0 with a 2.75 ERA in 10 games (5 of them starts), 36 innings pitched. He leaves the game with a scoreless tie. No decision tonight.

Apparently, I am way out of the loop with baseball as I was not aware that Manny Ramirez is still in the swing of things far far away from American soil. The pictures above depict Manny’s Taiwanese teammates of the EDA Rhinos celebrating his 40th birthday, as the whole squad wore dreadlock caps complete with the recognizable Dodger blue. Glad to see his new teammates showing him some respect.

How is Manny doing in Taiwan?

Stats: .344, 7 HR, 32 RBI and 45 hits in 35 games.

Best reliever in baseball, Jason Grilli, (23 saves) faced the best hitter in baseball, Miguel Cabrera this evening and Grilli won the battle getting Cabrera for the final out of the game and a Pittsburgh win. The Indians gain a game tonight breaking a five game losing skid.

The Associated Press reports that former major league outfielder Milton Bradley was convicted Monday of abusing his estranged wife.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles city attorney's office said Bradley was convicted on nine misdemeanor counts, including assault with a deadly weapon and spousal battery. Prosectors said Bradley threatened and attacked his five times between 2011 and 2012. He will be sentenced on July 2 faces up to 7 1/2 years in prison. Bradley, 35, played 11 seasons in MLB.
