Age means nothing.
Free Agency killed that.
There are very good major league players that are peak performers at all ages through their twenties and extending into late thirties.
All that matters is "are you improving, staying the same or fading but still useful."
Money means everything.
Arbitration, options remaining and free agency are all that matters.
Team players are either underpaid, adequately compensated or over paid.
Re: General Discussion
11402Is their priority defense? offense? price tag? Lots of names there to choose from with plenty of good seasons among them over the past decade.
Re: General Discussion
11403Anthony Castrovince on MLBNetwork is saying that Kluber has a surprising amount of interest and value at the winter meetings. Lots of interest despite the troubled past season.
Reason? The starting pitching contracts (Wheeler, Strasburg and???) have made Kluber's contract a huge bargain.

11405Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the Twins are pursuing Hyun-Jin Ryu, Dallas Keuchel, and Madison Bumgarner.
At this point, they are the top-three non Gerrit Cole starters remaining on the free agent market. None of these are new names and the Twins will face plenty of competition. Bumgarner figures to be the most expensive of the trio, likely landing a five-year deal valued around $100 million. The Twins have already brought back Jake Odorizzi and Michael Pineda, but one of these pitchers could put them over the top.
So with the Chisox signing Grandal, apparently the days of only the Indians actually trying in the Central are over.

11407Just reading Hoynes on players we might lose in the rule 5 draft. Surprised that Jose Fermin is not related to Felix Fermin. Thought that was why they signed him.
Felix Fermin greatest gift to the Tribe was that he was traded for Omar Vizquel

Re: General Discussion
11408The Orioles and Indians are two of the four teams that have shown interest in infielder Jose Peraza, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand (via Twitter). The Reds non-tendered Peraza last week on the heels of an unproductive season, but he’s only a year removed from a respectable showing. The 25-year-old’s also controllable via arbitration through 2022.
Re: General Discussion
11409All the press about the possibility of trading Lindor reminds me of this Branch Rickey quote about Ralph Kiner:
Rickey issued the following memorable statement to Kiner during the negotiations: “We finished in last place with you. We can finish in last place without you.”
He is clearly more valuable to the tribe by the holes his departure could fill.

Chad Pinder, A’s utilityman, is drawing significant interest. Indians and others have inquired. So far Oakland has been resistant to deal him.

Re: General Discussion
11411and who is Chad Pinder?
a 2nd round pick in 2013. Put up the exciting line in 2019: 240/290/416 20 walks/8 strikeouts 0 steals.
No wonder Oakland is reluctant to deal such an impressive offensive talent.

Re: General Discussion
11412did have power 21 doubles and 13 homers in 270 plate appearances. But I wouldn't offer much. Can't we get a FA 2B without giving up anyone in return and expect to have Nolan Jones ready for 2021 if not before; and Tyler Freeman at worst a year behind him.
Re: General Discussion
11413So you’re talking about a guy with 40 double and 30 homer potential projected over a full season with steady AB’s, and one that walks over twice as much as he strikes out. Put me on board.
Re: General Discussion
11414Bob Nightengale says the Dodgers and Indians are still talking, and the Indians are seeking a package including Lux and May, and Dodgers may be coming around.
I’d still prefer Verdugo to May.

I appreciate all you do providing info on all our organization players. Keep it up.
Hot stove keeps us warm during the off season.
For me, lists mean nothing. I'm not a fantasy player so the only thing that matters to me is who is on the Indians 26 man roster.
Once they hit the 26, I judge them on what they do with their opportunity.
Physically, all the signed players can play Major League ball.
Injuries, mental adjustments and opportunities determine "if" and how long they can help the Major League club.
