Civ, there is a web site that an inquiring mind like yours will enjoy. It's called Spotrac, and they have contract details for every player.

Anyways civ I do believe technically Kluber IS a free agent after this year since if the team doesn't pick up the option he will be.

Hard to say if he will be shopped since any team looking at him will have a hard time assessing his value after last season.

He'd be more of a guy you might go until the trade deadline with next year to let him re-establish his value.

He'd still have that half year and another option year if a team were to acquire him then.

I don’t think there’s any chance in hell we buy him out. We will do exactly what you said. Pitch him till July of next year and hope he re-establishes himself as a Cy Young contender. Then trade him for a kings ransom, as our front office somehow always seems to do.

I mean, we did get Kluber for Westbrook and Ludwick or some such.

The Padres traded Kluber to the Cleveland Indians on July 31, 2010, in a three-team trade also involving the St. Louis Cardinals.[10] Cleveland sent Jake Westbrook to the Cardinals and Ryan Ludwick to the Padres.[11] The Padres sent Nick Greenwood to the Cardinals, and the Indians paid $2.7 million of Westbrook's remaining salary.[4][12] At the time of the trade, Kluber's minor league record was 18–24, and he was not ranked among the top thirty prospects in the Padres' farm system

Utter genius and probably all of us would have thought the Tribe were out of their minds at the time.

The emergence of Civale, Plesac and Plutko all in the same season completely changes the future for this team.

Especially when you consider how young Bieber and Clevinger are as well.

There is your rotation right there not including Kluber and Carrasco.

Who would have thought?

Plutko has done a good job, but he’s going to find himself odd man out. But he pitched well enough that he will draw interest in trade banter this winter.

Hell, Rodriguez looked really good too till injury. Could be an interesting hot stove this year on trade front. Maybe we can get a good young infielder or reliever or both.

well we certainly were reminded this year of the advantage of having starting pitching depth. wouldn't trade more than one of Plutko and Rodriguez. Lefties acquired from SD and CIN in the Bauer deal [steal?] could be available to start games for us next year, too.

too bad the RedSox are so lousy. We're back to 1/2 game behind.

And question: who is our closer for the last week of the season? Hand? Carrasco? Everyone?

Damn Yankees aren't really trying this week and did no better against the Rays than the miserable RedSox.

If he had enough innings to qualify Clevinger would now be leading the AL in ERA. His OPS AVG-against K/IP let alone winning % are up among the top several. He and Bieber are quite the pair of aces. And coming into the season they were our no 4 and 5 starters.
