I read called specifically (Abdominal)"internal oblique strain." And found this online (apparently common in bowlers):
Treatment
It is important to cease bowling and throwing immediately after injury and ice the painful area. For best results and reduced recovery time, seek professional treatment for a side strain.
Most side strain injuries require 4 to 6 weeks of rehabilitation prior to a return to sport.

And that's just a return to the sport! Not all the buildup necessary after that to pitch.
Pretty well cooked for this year.

No bowling for Corey. Didn't say anything in there about throwing a baseball 95 mph

Yes, it said no bowling OR throwing. Sadly.
I will say that the seriousness any soft tissue injury varies by degrees though.

If the waiver trade deadline still existed they'd be looking for a closer from a noncontender, but that option is unavailable.
Wittgren has 3 saves this year; and 3 in his career.
Clippard has 68 in his career, 32 of them back in 2012; 7 last year' he's clearly the most experienced closer
Goody and Cimber have none.
Otero who's about ready to return had 1 last year and 3 in his career
pick your poison.

this story is from 2 days ago, before the latest Brad Hand disaster:
NEW YORK -- It’s easy to say that a team has to get this player or that player back on track. Turning words into actions is harder.
After the Indians finished a four-game series against the Yankees on Sunday, manager Terry Francona was asked about closer Brad Hand, who had just struggled through a messy ninth inning despite a big lead.
“We’ve got to get him back on track,” said Francona. Before the Indians opened a three-game series against the Mets on Tuesday night, Francona was asked exactly what steps can be taken.
“From my side of it, I have to be more consistent in when he’s used,” said Francona. "The last month he’s been used a ton and then he’ll go six days without pitching. That’s a hard thing to do, but I think that’s where maybe how I can help. “Carl (Willis, pitching coach) can do the pitching stuff in trying to get the breaking ball where he wants it. They can figure that out. But his usage is where I can help out.”
Hand pitched five times in a 10-day span Aug. 3-12. Then he went five days without pitching from Aug. 12 through Sunday. “His velocity is fine,” said Francona. “No one is perfect over the course of the year. If you look at his numbers they’re almost identical to Aroldis Chapman ... that’s pretty good.”
Here’s how the two closers stack up:
*Hand: 6-3, 3.04 (17 earned runs in 50 1/3 innings), 29-for-33 in saves, 52 games, 44 hits, 5 HRs, 15 walks, 76 strikeouts, .230 batting average against.
*Chapman: 3-2, 2.36 (13 earned runs in 49 2/3 innings), 35-for-40 in saves, 52 games, 35 hits, 2 HRs, 22 walks, 72 strikeouts, .194 batting average against.
Hand, in his last 17 appearances, has allowed 13 earned runs in 16 innings for a 7.31 ERA. [add yesterday and it's 15 ER in 16 2/3 IP for an 8.10 ERA over a rather sustained period of time by now.

Hmm, Chapman's numbers looked better to me, for sure.
Especially now of course.
Pretty simple to me. I heard it described this way by Dan O'Dowd:
Relievers are like every day players. However, an every day player could have a horrible day, and maybe throw a guy out at home. Or ground into an out that scores a run. Something.
Relievers not so much. Their bad day is just a bad day. And that can wear on their minds because then they have to go back out the next day or so without that confidence that can come from doing something...anything....positive.

Hope we have some scouts watching the Little League World Series. There's some future Major League players putting on a show.

By the way, I don’t think it was mentioned, Carrasco pitched 1 2/3 last night, retired all 5 batters, struck out 4.
I think I heard them say he was going to have one more rehab stint Sunday then might come up after that.
They are going to re-examine Kluber and see if they can accelerate his rehab. Must be scared he’s done for year but want to make sure.

Thanks for that HB.
Certainly in a peculiar way Carrasco's situation could end up a major benefit for our bullpen - with a relatively fresh arm as a result and the bullpen being able to use him!
Yet he was still able to throw with his condition.
In the meantime Plesac and Civale keep producing in a way no one could have seen coming.
Could be a unforeseen way for a positive ending to a difficult situation.

A fan called in to Drennan the other day saying put Carrasco at closer. Drennan said he hoped Francona would use Carrasco like he used to use Miller. If he is up to it that would be intriguing.
As far as nobody seeing Civale and Plesac coming ... again, I posted a top prospect list 2 years ago and had Civale in my top 10 and Plesac in my top 20. And A couple months ago I posted this ...

Having followed these guys for quite a while, in my opinion I would say Civale is a step below Bieber, but a step above Plesac. Just to give you an idea of what to expect.

Plesac may prove me wrong and be better than Civale, but I have always liked both.

Jose Ramirez underwent an MRI exam on his injured right wrist on Saturday.
Ramirez was pulled from Saturday's game against the Royals in the first inning after injuring his wrist on a swing. While the results of that exam are not yet known, Yu Chang was pulled from his game at Triple-A Columbus and is on stand-by in the event that Ramirez requires a trip to the injured list.
Stay tuned on Sunday, as the superstar third baseman could be looking at an extended absence.
