I don't think he's lost much of his trade value despite his slump. His weirdness will turn off some teams but not most.

Agree civ.

Remember Bauer thought he was going to be traded. That's because his value is crazy high due to the fact that he is still young.

Sure, a smart thing to do is wait a turn or two until he puts up some good outings, but then he could (and probably should) be dealt for good young hitters!

Rumor is San Diego is asking about Bauer again.

Drennan says the reason the first deal died is Indians insisted on a young catcher of theirs. Padres wasn’t sold on Mejia’s defense so they balked.

From Zach Meisel ...

Mike Clevinger will throw a simulated game in AZ on Saturday, and then could begin a rehab assignment.

Danny Salazar threw live batting practice to hitters today for the first time this year.

Bradley Zimmer will spend this week in AZ and then could join AAA Columbus.

Makes all kinds of sense wanting a young catcher (with defense). And SD has an excess of quality young outfielders so I'd bet one of those were on the list too.

"No, the Indians didn’t anticipate losing Clevinger and Kluber to injuries and losing Ramírez to identity theft. But the offseason decision-making also left the club zero margin for error" - @ZackMeisel

Exactly the point I was trying to make the other day. This ain't bad luck. This is the thin team they built.

Expecting a minor setback any day now.

For sure, the luck would have been if NOTHING injury related would have happened.

We all know you have to be a good 8 starters deep including minors to last a season.

And we don't have, yet, the number of stud young arms to use an opener and bullpen for entire games a la Tampa Bay.

Yes, the Twins are a surprise, but at the very least you could see they had improved.

From Pluto today:

Who goes to the minors?

Jake Bauers is batting only .193 (.592 OPS) in May 2 HR and 9 RBI. He has 30 strikeouts in 93 at bats. He’s really struggling. For the season, he’s down to .217 (.646 OPS).

Jordan Luplow is tied with Carlos Santana for the team lead in home runs (7). He’s hitting .244 (.818 OPS). Luplow has a definite role as he also can play all three outfield spots. He crushes lefty pitching (.313, 1.190 OPS).

They could send Greg Allen back to the minors. He was off to a terrible start with the Tribe and sent back to Class AAA at the end of April. He was recalled recently and is 7-for-22 since he returned. Do they want to keep him around and go younger?

Or the Tribe could move veteran Leonys Martin. The 31-year-old is batting only .218 (.643 OPS) and has 61 strikeouts in 193 at bats.

Look, earlier in the season when we were so-called contenders and Leonys Martin was showing promise...I got it. But now...ok 61 strikeouts in 193 at bats is insanely bad - even for a slugger!! And a slugger he is not.

So this is a no brainer. The kids stay for more auditions and Leonys now packs his bags. He'd be a fine 4th outfielder for some other team. Not a starter.
