According to the article, horseracing has many of the same problems as greyhound racing in regards to mistreatment of the animals.

That's the whole point of the story. He also was watching the cards and in his view and possible viewing of the hole card he thought the best thing to do for himself and his recent table friends was to stay on Nine.

It worked, and he was right.


Mathematically, I respected his decision, and especially so as I realized he was trying to play for the table.

I totally agree with the thought that Sammy Davis was pound for pound the best performer in American History to date.


Sammy Davis, Jr. lost his eye in a wreck with a lady ironically from Northeastern Ohio.


Sammy in his later performing years oftened announced that he hugged everyone tightly because he regretted not telling someone close to him who had died that he never told them how much he appreciated them/him/her before passed.

I have not seen the show, and I previously posted elsewhere around here that I might have problems with that show.

The Underworld does not fix every race, and if one thinks they do, that can be handicapped for wagering.

Any horse still standing and being cared for for racing after age 4 four is a very lucky horse.

It's an expensive game, and all involved usually want the best.

Horses eat a lot, need lots of attention, and usually lots of meds. $2.000 to $3,000 if they are racing, and maybe a low of $650 per month if frugal and resourceful, if not.

Friday night my wife and I caught the airing of Tony Award winning Memphis, with the original Broadway cast, on one of our PBS stations. It's loosely based on a true story about a white guy in Memphis in the early 1950's who loved the Black Music of the day. Through some twists and turns, he gets a job as a DJ and proceeds to turn Memphis and then America on to the music. He chases the female artist he met in the underground juke joint along the way.

The story line may have been predictable, but the musical numbers, choreography and acting were more than well worth watching.

I told my wife afterwards, "we just watched a Tony Award winning show for free, as it is STILL playing on Broadway."


Of course, you may not all agree with whatever "judgment" I might have. This evening we landed on a new PBS station I've learned we have in the high channels (#200) and I watched some fine Texas songwriter music on Austin City Limits.

I then skipped a few channels higher and watched The Florence Henderson Show on a network I just learned about called RLTV that purports to attempt programming for those over the age of 50.

Yep, I just watched The Florence Henderson Show, that I didn't even know existed before this evening.

Let's just think about any little 9 year old girl who might have asked, "Daddy, please buy me a pony.....please""

And Daddy did.

And now the kid is 38, and "the pony" is going on 30.

Even if the family has a little piece of land and that pony has an acre or so to move around and eat on, that pony has cost a lot of $$ and is still costing a lot of $$.

Horses who are racing are the luckiest horses in the world. And perhaps the happiest. Horses have the same human emotion of "getting bored."

Former OSU player arrested for drug possession

PORTLAND — A former Ohio State University football player was arrested in Meigs County on Sunday evening by the Ohio State Highway Patrol after he was allegedly found to be in the possession of over 200 suspected Oxycontin tablets.

Raymond Small, 24, Columbus, was arrested at 5:56 p.m. on Sunday by Trooper James Trelka of the Gallia-Meigs Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol near mile post 24 on U.S. 33. Mile post 24 is approximately 3.5 miles west of the William S. Ritchie (Ravenswood) Bridge.

According to Sgt. Barry Call of the Gallia-Meigs Post, Small was found with 243 pills believed to be Oxycontin, an undisclosed amont of suspected heroin, some hand-rolled marijuana cigarettes and a loaded 25 caliber pistol.

Small was scheduled to appear in Meigs County Court on Monday and is reportedly being charged with the possession of a schedule II narcotic. Further charges are pending.

As of press time, Small had been released from the Meigs County Jail.

According to Meigs County Sheriff Robert Beegle, Small is a former Ohio State University football player.

ESPN.com reports that the Cleveland native played for the Buckeyes during their 2006-09 seasons.

As I drive and get out, I have to take off "the driving slipper," and then put on the walking cast and properly inflate the air. And then when I return, I have to reapply action to deflate the cast to take it off and put the slipper back on. And later, apply and re-inflate

Davy Jones died in an obscure area of Florida that has great horse training facilities. He loved horses. Not a good statement about medical facilities in Florida that he was in a hospital the day before he died complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath, and then they released him. To die of a heart attack the next day.

I rarely had an urge to watch The Monkees in it's live airing, but I was in Cub Scouts and had a Super Cool "Den Mother" who had our "pack" on the afternoon of the evening The Monkees aired. Her house was near The Cuyahoga River.....a good part....with a cut through the neighborhood to "The Cuyahoga Falls Gorge."

When she asked what our Cub Scout Troop wanted to do in our late afternoon meetings, I always requested, "let's go hiking in The Gorge."

And we went. I've won for a long time.

When we came out and went back to the Den Mother's house I normally finangled a way to hang out with her family before calling my Dad for a ride home.

She had a cute daughter.

I don't remember her name, but do know I wanted to hang out with the daughter because she wanted to see The Monkees and I wanted to see them with her.
