MLB Trade Rumors: Dodgers Remain in Talks over Corey Kluber, More
Scott Polacek
November 29, 2018
The Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly in the market for a Cleveland Indians starting pitcher.
Jon Morosi of MLB Network noted "trade talks remain ongoing" between the two teams while crediting Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Morosi also noted a starting pitcher from the group of Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco and Trevor Bauer "likely would go" to the Dodgers if a trade was finalized.
This comes after Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported other teams believe Cleveland is more likely to trade Bauer than the other two options. He pointed to the "cost uncertainty" with Bauer seeing how he has two arbitration years remaining.
For his part, Bauer believes it would make more sense for the Indians to trade him next year given his contract situation:
Trevor Bauer @BauerOutage
@Reflog_18 And let’s be honest. It makes no sense to trade me this year. I’m still playing at a massive discount. Next year is when it would make sense to trade me
The right-hander is coming off a breakout campaign that saw him make his first career All-Star Game and post career-bests nearly across the board with a 2.21 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 221 strikeouts. The 27-year-old had never posted an ERA below 4.18 in a prior season.
Kluber, 32, is older but has club options for 2020 and 2021 and has served as a dominant and proven ace for much of his career as a two-time American League Cy Young winner and three-time All-Star. He was also impressive yet again in 2018 with a 2.89 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 222 strikeouts.
The 31-year-old Carrasco has a club option for 2020 and has largely been a model of consistency with five straight seasons of an ERA at 3.63 or better, including 2018 when he tallied a 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 231 strikeouts.
Los Angeles reached the World Series in each of the last two years only to fall short of a title. Trading for any of the three would give it another starter to unleash in a playoff series alongside Clayton Kershaw and the promising Walker Buehler.
That trio would be capable of controlling a postseason series and helping lead the Dodgers to a seventh straight National League West crown.

Regarding the above Dodger talks. There is a rumor that the talks are surrounding Kluber and Puig. But Bruce Drennan on his show today said his team sources say the Dodgers want Carrasco.

Oh, also, Dodgers are also to be rumored to want Gomes because Yasmani Grandal rejected the one-year, $17.9 million qualifying offer.
Stove heating up.

Puig is an overpaid punk. Nobody wants him.

I prefer the Padres rumor. Naylor is a nice looking 1st base prospect. Reyes or Renfroe would give us a power hitting corner OF'er. And the Padres have a good bullpen. Maybe we could get a guy like Yates or a younger guy to help Hand.

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi
#Mets and #Dodgers have trade interest in #Indians catcher Yan Gomes, sources confirm. (@Ken_Rosenthal first mentioned Gomes to L.A. as a possibility.) It's unclear how the expected Cano/Diaz deal impacts #Mets ability to obtain Gomes. @MLB @MLBNetwork

Jon Heyman @JonHeyman
Yan Gomes is being acquired by the #Nats. Gives them a nice catching combo with Suzuki. Minor League RF Daniel Johnson going the other way to #Indians

Daniel Johnson is a 23 year old with some speed and pop. Had a 20/20 year in ‘16 in A ball. Just completed AA season in Harrisburg. I’ll have to ask my sister and bro in law about him. They go to Harrisburg games a lot.
He hit .269 this year. 7 homers and 22 steals.
.327 OBP.
.412 SLG.
Not that great but some potential.
Move opens up a spot for Haase now.

Johnson named Nationals' Player of Year
By Kelsie Heneghan / MiLB.com | October 3, 2017
Daniel Johnson stood out during his first full season. And now he's being rewarded for it.
The Nationals No. 10 prospect was named the club's Minor League Player of the Year while Wander Suero garnered Washington's Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors and Raudy Read earned the Bob Boone Award.
After being selected in the fifth round of the 2016 Draft, Johnson began this year with Class A Hagerstown, then made a late-July jump to Class A Advanced Potomac. Across the two levels, the 22-year-old batted .298. He ranked third in the system with 22 home runs, fifth with 72 RBIs and fifth with a .298 average. Johnson added 22 stolen bases in 33 attempts -- the only Nationals prospect in the 20-20 club.
"I think just repetition helped. Getting comfortable with my swing. Not trying to do too much," Johnson told the Washington Post. "Not trying to be a different player -- just me, the player I can be. Just trying to settle down and do what I can do."

By the way, also being reported the Indians do not want to move Carrasco, and are trying to sign him to an extension. Under club control for 2 more years.

Jefry Rodriguez is a starter. Posted a 5.71 ERA for Nats this year. Has a career 4.17 ERA in minors.
Might as well had stopped with the OF’er.

So if we do make a trade with the Padres for Kluber, how about getting Mejia back?
