Well it's longer now. I think they finally realized that resuming the season on a Thursday nearly forced them into four-games series for everyone immediately after, and that that was too constraining on constructing the season schedule. (Probably wasn't the only reason, but it certainly is one they could claim.)

Hey, everybody wants a longer vacation. I just got back from 10 days with no phone or internet and I think we all benefited from that.

I hope you enjoyed, really.

Personally I hate being away from communications. I can relax and enjoy and "get away" just fine with full phone and internet access. I can tone down the electronic communications.

Early in our marriage my wife and I had to sort those things out.

We had our marriage in Virginia City NV, and we honeymooned in a historic old bed and breakfast just south of town. We had no access to cell or internet.

Of course it was the honeymoon, so good time not to have it.

We tried to be "proper" on the night before our wedding, so we stayed about a mile apart in rural Nevada.

I was awakened on Our Wedding Day by the sounds and movement of wild mustangs outside my bedroom window. There were three, right there in close and full view. I thought it might have been some kind of message from God about the wedding in a few hours.

I couldn't google it (or hotbot it back then) for further possible explanation, so I did go through with the wedding a few hours later.

I got married in the morning.

Happily so, in my second decade of marriage to this girl.

My wife has known for a few years now that when she books our accommodations, they better darned well have wi-fi and good broadcast access.

Well, I guess the All Star Game is officially "today" now.

I hope our guys come through OK.

My wife unexpectedly wanted to watch a movie she saw available while surfing earlier this morning. She rarely can hang with a movie on a weekday night, and rarely wants to watch the old stuff.

Since we were at the gym and she said she wanted to watch one, I happily obliged. I watch old movies in the late night by myself, and have for years.

This one featured an early Humphrey Bogart, a "pre-Gone With the Wind" Leslie Howard, the actor who later played Dorothy's uncle on the farm in "Wizard of Oz," and the one and only Bette Davis (where is Kim Carnes when you need her).

The movie was set in the Arizona desert, circa 1936. Filming of outdoor scenes was actually in The Red Rock Canyon of California that I have been by and through multiple times.

I always thought that Leslie Howard was kind of a light weight actor, "Gone With the Wind" included. This movie tonight changed my perception and opinion.

"The Petrified Forest"

1936

A waitress, a hobo and a bank robber get mixed up at a lonely diner in the desert.

Oh, I caught the last few innings of the All Star Game. The highlight of the night was that Asdrubal Cabrera earned a base on balls.

Mostly the game was like watching a Sunday afternoon affair in the full fledged Wedge/Shapiro era.

And I'm sure Rusty is not happy that "the old drunk" LaRussa came off the retirement bench and pushed the buttons correctly to humiliate The American League.

What buttons did he have to push? The game was essentially over in the first inning, thanks to Verlander. You could blame Ron Washington, I guess, for not taking him out sooner, but the AL scored ZERO runs.

Most Bogart and Cagney movies catch my eye. I always enjoyed The Petrifiec Forest, and earlier last week watched Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy.

When I think back to the old movies that I like, it's those normally with the prominent male characters.

Bogart, Gable and Cagney, of course. Oh, and Jimmy Stewart.

About the only "old broad" who I will go out of my way to see is Mae West. Davis or Bacall, et al do not draw me to tune in for their film works.

Tallulah Bankhead might have been a hoot to hang with though.

Speaking pre-World War II.

Frank Sinatra did one called "Suddenly" in 1954 that sat on a shelf in a vault for a couple of decades waiting for public release after President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.

It's a good obscure flick.

No arguments, but I will once more point out that Tony LaRussa does good work and funded and started some organizations for animals and rape victims that I respect.

I for one, will drink to that.....

And I'll add that I never was a sports fan of "The Lawyer Manager" during any season.
