Another horror story from Arlington, TX.
“Every day is a new opportunity. You can build on yesterday's success or put its failures behind and start over again. That's the way life is, with a new game every day, and that's the way baseball is.”

I don't think they've packed it in JR. They are just overmatched. Ten more strikeouts this evening.

C'mon Joe, those were some of the worst at-bats you'll ever see. It was like a late spring training game when we were at the plate waving ineffectually at pitch after pitch--even when it was scoreless (and that only because Duncan was hustling his ass off in left field), you could tell one team didn't want to be there.

Highlights of my night at The Ballpark: It really is a first-rate park, and my first suite experience made me wish I had real money (and rooted for a real team) so I could make it a fulltime thing--and we were in the suite named for Tris Speaker. It was $1 hot dog night, so we ate well; plus the suite was stocked with goodies like pop, condiments, and even wine. My girlfriend and her daughter made it onto the Jumbotron during the seventh-inning stretch festivities. It was merely "hot," and not the long journey into hell that most of these last 3 months has been. The fans were pretty mellow.

Lowlights were everything that happened between the white lines. Well, I did get to see Jim Thome have one last hit in a Tribe uniform, so there was that.

Something else I forgot to mention: during the pregame and maybe every couple of innings during the game, there was a promo on the screen from a local business promising "free flooring and carpeting" if Josh Hamilton hit a grand slam. Now what are the odds a promotion like that will come into play during any particular game? (I guess when the Indians are the other team, pretty damn good.)

I'm curious about what this promotion entails, or if it applies to people like us who don't live in the immediate metro area, but the company's web site is still being hammered this morning.

Duncan looks like one of those quitters that has given up on the season :o

I thought Manny Acta did an excellent job this season. I don't think Jim Leyland or Ron Gardenhire could have gotten much more out of this team than did Manny Acta.

September 15 Cleveland Plain Dealer

"Do they hand out Gold Gloves for one game? Shelley Duncan, not known for his defense, was that good in left field Wednesday night at Rangers Ballpark at Arlington. Besides Duncan, the Indians weren't good at all in a 9-1 loss to the Rangers that reduced their magic number to elimination to two in the American League Central. Any combination of Detroit victories and Indians losses that equals two will eliminate manager Manny Acta's ballclub. The AL West-leading Rangers improved to 8-1 against the Indians this year. They have outscored them, 61-28, in the series that mercifully ends tonight. "These guys continue to overmatch us at both ends of the game," said Acta."

Big time rookie mistakes by Chisenhall. One out, bases loaded, 3-1 count and Lonnie swings and misses on two pitches out of the strikezone and then Ogando gets Marson to swing and miss on a full count with two out and the bases still loaded. Ogando threw 39 pitches that inning.

Carmona retired the side in order in the first. No score. Ezekiel Carrera in right field replacing Choo in the second inning. Choo fouled one off the foot in the first.
